A Note from our Executive Director
Dear friend,
“Let us remember… one child and one teacher can change the world.”
Malala Yousafzai
What do you remember about the first day of school? When I was growing up, the first day of school meant a new outfit, anxiety about what friends might be in my class, getting to know a new teacher, and have that teacher get to know me.
At IVYP, our first day of school meant 10 new babies in our infant rooms. It meant some tears as some of our preschoolers separated from parents. It means 80 students at El Camino elementary school and 130 students at Isla Vista Elementary school will be spending their afternoons with us – learning about club choice and mindfulness, as well as homework help and library time.
The first day of school means new beginnings, new opportunities, a clean slate. It’s when we set goals for the year, full of optimism and possibility. So, as we move out of summer and into fall, I wish you and your families a new school year full of promise.
