Happiness all around with Old Navy job
In the realm of retail, being cordial, outgoing and on top of your tasks is a fine recipe for success. Mary Klein has these attributes in spades.
When an Old Navy hiring manager reported back to the general manager about Klein, the descriptor that came was “happy.” A brand associate, Klein receives job support from ProAct at the clothing store in Eagan’s Promenade shopping center.
Mary works at the Old Navy store in Eagan's Promenade area. GM Heather Bouchard said Klein's attitude tends to spread. “I feel like there are days when I look forward and say, ‘OK, Mary’s here today so it’s a good day.’ We love her,” she said.

Legislature restores some of last year's reduction
The 2019 Legislative Session in St. Paul had some positive results for ProAct and similar service providers, but many in the field say there’s much more to be done.
A “Competitive Workforce Factor” of 4.7 percent was included in legislation that will result in a net rate increase of approximately 4 percent beginning in 2020. It still needs federal approval. This comes more than a year after a 7 percent rate cut in 2018. There was support for preventing the cut last year, said ProAct CEO Steve Ditschler, but the veto of a larger bill left the cut in place.
“We’re getting what amounts to be 4 percent restored out of the 7 percent cut,” he said. The full impact of changes in reimbursement rates over the last several years will become apparent during calendar year 2020 on a gradual basis as individual service agreements renew.

Youth volunteers bring tidy help, interactions to Zumbrota site
It started as a kind gesture to honor a ProAct participant in Zumbrota who passed away, Kathleen Rick. Area high school students came to clean and pull weeds for a day of community service.
Just before graduation, students arrived to clean windows, buses and vans for the small town site. “It’s the stuff you don’t always get to,” said ProAct Site Manager Jo Erickson. The cleanup is a two-year tradition.
Family members of Kathleen Rick, who passed away a couple of years ago, organized the ProAct community service project for Zumbrota High School.Rick was the the first participant in Zumbrota’s Adult Day Services program, and really the reason for getting it started, explains Erickson. The little things make a difference, but sometimes these things can take a back seat when serving participants is the main focus.

'More my brother that he used to be'
Gary has grown a lot as a person, is more independent and able to express himself more since joining the ProAct program in Hudson, Wis.
What better way is there to spend one's birthday than visiting old friends? This wish was fulfilled for participant John Erickson, who returned to ProAct in Eagan to reconnect with staff and fellow participants.
Erickson transferred from ProAct in Eagan to New Options - ProAct in Shakopee last year. With an easy smile and a prompt handshake, he's meeting new people all the time. And he's not shy to share his singing talents, either.
