skillsFuture Skills Centre: Call for Proposals

The Future Skills Centre recently launched its latest open call for proposals that address one of the following three questions:
  1. How can we best support Canadians facing labour market disruption to transition to new jobs or industries?
  2. How can employers be more effectively engaged in developing and delivering demand-driven solutions to skills gap challenges?
  3. How can skills development systems be optimized, building up the capacity of service provides and encouraging collaboration between organizations?
Further details on the guidelines and the application instructions for the Call for Proposals is available on the Centre's website . Applications must be submitted by 5pm EDT on September 16, 2019.

Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to submit a full application in December, with successful projects announced in March 2020.

We are sharing this information with you as many universities are involved with the Future Skills Centre's initial innovation projects announced earlier this year, and many of your institutions may be interested in taking part in the Centre's ongoing projects and activities.

IRCIRC Relocation off Campus

The Industrial Relations Centre will be moving to the third floor of the Executive House, located at 275 Ontario Street, effective September 2, 2019. The newly renovated space in the heart of downtown Kingston will include a technology-enhanced meeting space with four break-out rooms, a multifunctional kitchen and staff offices.

Although the IRC offers professional development training programs across Canada, they are excited that the new training space in Kingston will allow them to accommodate their growing need for a customizable space to improve their participant experience. This meeting room is ideal for groups of 16-20 people, making the environment more conducive to hands-on learning, collaboration and engagement with peers and experienced facilitators.

The newly renovated meeting space will be available for use by the Faculty of Arts and Science starting in November 2019. A grand opening will be scheduled in early November to officially launch the Centre's new space.
