Leaders from other states seek to understand why Indiana’s conservation partnership is so strong.
(Tom Bechman, Indiana Prairie Farmer, Aug 12, 2019)
Have you ever heard the saying “You don’t know what you have until you lose it?” One thing Indiana has is a super-strong partnership for soil and water conservation which extends through local, state and federal levels. Fortunately, Indiana doesn’t have to give up this kind of partnership for you to know just how strong and important it is.

NRCS Announces Additional Funding to Plant Cover Crops on Flooded Cropland Acreage
Indianapolis, IN, August 22, 2019 – USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has received additional funding for a special Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) sign-up throughout Indiana for those farmers who could not plant their crops because of flooded or wet fields. This funding is available statewide. Excessive moisture and flooding in 2019 have prevented or delayed planting on many farms in Indiana. Many producers were unable to plant crops by a final planting date or have experienced significant delays in planting. This sign-up provides technical and financial assistance to help farmers plant cover crops, an alternative to letting fields go fallow and uncovered. The deadline to apply is August 30, 2019.
