'Stepped' treatment reduces drinking in patients with HIV  People with HIV who drink too much were more likely to reduce drinking after undergoing an approach to care known as integrated stepped alcohol treatment, according to a Yale-led study. The finding supports greater use of this treatment model in HIV clinics to improve outcomes for patients with both HIV and drinking problems, the researchers said. The study was published in The Lancet HIV. Dr. Jennifer Edelman is the lead author.

UNAIDS and the LGBT Foundation Launch Groundbreaking Study on Happiness, Sex And Quality of Life for LGBTI People  The global survey, the first of its kind, is part of a campaign to gain more information and insight into the challenges faced by LGBTI people. The data gathered will help to voice the concerns and advocate for improving the conditions and treatment of LGBTI people, including ensuring access to inclusive health and social services. The survey is open for participation until 31 July 2019 and takes about 12 minutes to complete.

Research Snapshot Series  CIRA's Research Snapshot series features one page summaries of completed, peer reviewed and published studies conducted by our affiliated scientists. The summaries describe the reason for the study, the key findings, and implications for practice and policy, presented in plain language. Each of the briefs also include a link to a published article in a peer reviewed journal that derives from the featured study.

FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Yale AIDS Prevention Training Program (Y-APT) and Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars (REIDS)  CIRA has 2 fellowship programs seeking new applicants. Each program pairs fellows with a mentor from among the top HIV researchers at CIRA for a 2-year period. Review of applications will begin after the new year.
