Hi Phoenix Family, Another great week has past and there is a lot of excitement at the nest. Our club offerings have increased, the performance “The Frogs” is cast, and soccer tryouts are over, which means the season is about to start. Don’t forget that Monday is our picture day. Students will be taking their pictures in their PE class. For those who do not have a PE class, they will be called by grade level. For students that receive free or reduced meals, this is a reminder that your student’s status for free or reduced meals from last year will expire on September 23 rd . To ensure a seamless meal service for your student, please reapply for meal benefits by filling our an application at www.myschoolapps.com . If you have any additional questions or need assistant, please call 407-858-3110 ext. 329-3966 or email meal.applications@ocps.net As a reminder, we are transitioning to accepting online payments for lunch money, field trips, class fees, etc. Please do not send cash or checks with your child. Register online via School Pay at https://www.schoolpay.com/ for each of your children and you will be able to pay for everything via that platform. Thank you in advance for following this procedure. Offficer Robert Corson- SRO My name is Officer Robert Corson. I am a proud member of the Orlando Police Department and I am honored to be the new School Resource Officer for Innovation Middle School. I have been an officer with OPD for 11 years .During my time with the agency I’ve been blessed to have been involved with various community outreaches, many of which involved our youth. Prior to my time with OPD I served in the US Navy having been stationed out of Pearl Harbor and out of MacDill AFB in Tampa. I deployed several times to Iraq and Afghanistan as well other countries in the Middle East.   My wife and I have 4 children, ages 2-12, the oldest of which is also in middle school. I’m a huge fan of Chicago Cubs baseball, Tennessee Volunteers Football, and an avid fan of all things guitar.   Becoming an SRO has been a goal of mine for several years and there is no other place that I would rather be than here with the students of Innovation. The administration and staff at Innovation are second to none, and it is my goal to assist them and the students in any way I can. The safety and security of your children is my number one priority and it is something that I take very seriously. If I can be of any assistance to you or your children, my door is always open.   I’m looking forward to a great year here at Innovation Middle School

Organization = High Grades = Less Stress = Happy Students Organization of materials encompasses the management of physical resources which allows students to arrive to class prepared with course materials. Student supported strategies for increased success like organization can be found in our AVID program. AVID equips teachers and schools with what they need to help students succeed on a path to college and career success. To better support students, AVID has developed the AVID Elective course. For one period a day, students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in their school’s most rigorous courses. Intramural Sports INNOVATION MIDDLE SCHOOL INTRAMURALS When: Tuesday and Thursday Time: 8 am – 9 am Activities: Basketball (August 20th-August 29th) All intramural activities are open to boys and girls     No paperwork or physical is needed to participate in intramurals. Beginning of Year Diagnostics

i-Ready Diagnostic Tests have started Students will begin taking their i-Ready diagnostic tests. This computer adaptive test will determine students' strengths in reading and math. Please remind your child to bring headphones and their fully-charged digital device to school. After the diagnostic, connect with your child's reading and math teachers to learn more about their test scores.

Phoenix Reading If your student is in a reading class, please make sure that they bring earbuds to class everyday and complete 45 minutes of iReady lessons per week.
