Dear Parents,

What a glorious reunion it was over the past few days at Palmetto Christian Academy! We are thrilled to welcome your children back to campus, and we are grateful for the spirit of unity and cooperation from our families to make in-person learning possible.

Please take a few minutes to read through this week's update of important information for you and your student.
New Student ID Badges:

PCA is taking a step to have an even more secure campus and to streamline the lunch line through the implementation of student ID badges.

On Wednesday morning, students will be given a personal photo ID badge to be used while in the building and when picking up lunch orders. We are easing into this new procedure as we hope to eventually have a system that will check students in and out using their ID badge.

  • K-3rd grades: No change. Teachers will handle lunch orders as they did last year.

  • 4th & 5th grade: Lanyard with ID badges will be kept in the classroom. Students will put them on once they arrive to class, leave them on throughout the day, and leave them in the classroom ready for the next day. This will reduce loss of badges.

  • 6th-12th grades: Students are to arrive each morning wearing their lanyard with ID and keep the lanyard on all day. They are responsible for keeping track of their badge. It is as important as wearing a uniform every day.

New students to PCA will not receive an ID badge yet as they need to have a photo taken and badge made.

Thank you for your patience as we are still in the process of tweaking these procedures. Look for more information soon!

Lunch Ordering & Lunchroom Volunteers:

Chef Bob and his amazing kitchen staff will be serving hot, delicious lunches for students beginning tomorrow. If you haven't ordered lunches yet for the month of August, be sure to log onto MYPCA, click Resources, then click the EZ School App logo to make your selections.

After ordering lunches, please be sure to sign up to help in the lunchroom! Chef Bob needs two volunteers each day to help in the kitchen to provide the best service to our students. It's a wonderful way to give back to the students and staff here at PCA, and you get to see your child enjoying his or her school day!

All parent volunteers must complete a background check prior to working in the lunchroom or in classrooms.

Dress Code Reminder:

Parent Student Handbooks can be found on MYPCA (under Resources) with complete details of PCA's Dress Code Policy. Please remember that high school boys must purchase shorts and pants from Dennis uniform, and boys' hair should be cut per dress code guidelines.

Update Medical Information in MYPCA:

This year, more than ever before, it is vitally important that you update your child's medical information in MYPCA. Simply click on each student's name, then look for the medical tab. We ask that you alert us to any medical conditions or allergies. Epipens or medications must be brought to the school office. If you have any questions or concerns, please email schoolnurse@palmettochristianacademy.org.

As a precaution for our students with food allergies, we will have a designated lunch table that will be ALLERGY FREE. Students are welcome to bring a friend to sit with them, as long as the friend's lunch does not contain allergens. That table, along with all tables in the cafeteria, will be thoroughly cleaned between each lunch period.

Travel Reminders:

If you are planning to travel out of the country during this school year, please be sure to check the CDC website for any travel advisories. These can be updated daily. If you travel internationally, be prepared that you may be asked to quarantine for 14 days upon your return OR asked to stay home for 5 days and then get tested for COVID-19. If you choose to test after 5 days, documentation of a negative test will be necessary in order to return to school.

Please notify our school nurses at schoolnurse@palmettochristianacademy.org of any plans to travel out of the country.

Reopening Plan:

Last Friday we sent an email regarding our school reopening plan. In case you missed it, here it is again. We encourage you to review the detailed information so you will be up to date with all the new school procedures and safety protocols in place for the 2020-2021 school year.
We hope your children are as excited about returning to school as we are about seeing them in our classrooms. Our faculty and staff have prayed earnestly for this reunion!

In Christ,
Darla Rourk
