FRF Board to pursue "Go-Cup District"
..... The Fondren Renaissance Foundation Board of Directors voted to pursue becoming a "go-cup district" joining Jackson's other food and entertainment districts, Highland Village, The District at Eastover and Renaissance.
..... The city's Leisure and Recreation District Ordinance calls for the "go-cup districts" which allow pedestrians to carry cups of alcoholic beverages anywhere within the approved district boundaries.
.....When the city ordinance passed, Council Member Virgi Lindsay said the goal is to give residents and visitors alike an opportunity "to enjoy themselves" and possibly bring in additional revenue to the city through its alcohol tax.
..... The ordinance limits go cups to 16 ounces and forbids glass containers.
..... Board approval came after discussion noting:
- better enforcement with a legal district and specified boundaries.
-the coming presence of paid Ambassadors patrolling the business district as a result of the Business Improvement District.
- enhanced experience for Fondren First Thursday, Beer Week, Restaurant Week, Fondren Unwrapped and other business-district events.
.....The process is expected to take three months to complete.
.....Anyone with questions, concerns or comments can forward them to Rebecca who will share them with the Board.
Welcome New FRF Board Members
.. ... Fondren Renaissance Foundation welcomes two new Board members: Molly Walker and Kim Burke . They replace retiring Board Members Lisa Wigington and Claudia Hauberg .
..... The Board thanks Lisa and Claudia for their dedication and service.
