Eligibility Center Tech Update
NAIA Members,

Earlier this month, we relaxed our policy for how students could request fee waivers for the month of August only. We are extending the current process to be accepted through October as students, members, and high school counselors get acclimated to the new site.

As a reminder, the relaxed fee waiver policy allows all students to submit fee waivers in one of the two following ways, based on the qualifications they meet.
  1. Fee Waiver Based on High School Qualifications:
  • To use the high school qualifications (SAT/ACT or free/reduced lunch) the student's high school counselor must approve the waiver via the NAIA High School Portal.
  1. Fee Waiver Based on Federal Pell Grant:
  • To use the collegiate qualifications ($4,500 in Federal Pell Grant during this academic year), the student must mail a copy of their financial aid award letter, in school sealed envelope.
  • Students seeking a fee waiver using this method, do not need to have their high school deny their high school fee waiver at this time.
We are actively working to resolve remaining issues with the new PlayNAIA, including the eligibility center status emails not being targeted to the appropriate recipients. This is undoubtedly burdensome to our members, and we apologize for the extra work this has caused.

While we don't have definitive answer on when the status email issue will be resolved, we are currently working with our technology partners on a solution. Components of the fix currently underway include:
  • Updating the recipient list.
  • Revising the email so that a single email is sent that includes all students from an institution, rather than one email per student.

The eligibility center continues to work extended hours to make up for delays caused by the new system. We are now only a couple days behind where we were at this time last year in regards to the number of decisions completed and continuing to make up ground.

We will keep you updated on any new information.

Sincerely,

Ellen Ramsey
