April 9, 2021

Dear Families and Staff,

The return from spring break was smooth with terrific weather.  We hope your family enjoyed some needed downtime.  For those who traveled, thank you for working with the health guidance and communicating with us.  We are committed to ensuring that our final two months of school are productive and engaging, while simultaneously planning for a typical fall experience for our students. Along those lines, here are a few important items to note:

Strategic Planning Survey-Please Complete by Friday, April 16
Please take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete a survey regarding the District's 3-5 year Strategic Plan, which will be finalized by fall 2021. Your input is extremely important to help the District prioritize its work to best meet the needs of our school community.

Current District 36 parents:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MDRB32J
Winnetka community members:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5M9HZGH

We look forward to incorporating your feedback into our planning process, as well as input from students, staff, and community members.

Extended Day Schedules
The Extended Day schedule at Carleton Washburne School is now in its third week and going well.  Students have been learning outdoors with the pleasant weather, using new camp chairs to better accommodate outdoor learning needs.  At the upcoming special Board meeting on April 15, we will be sharing options for the 7th and 8th grade students to remain on campus for a full-day starting the week of April 26.

We are in the final planning stages of the modified, full-day for our students in grades 1-6 to be implemented on April 19.  We thank our amazing PTO partners for helping recruit parent lunch volunteers. There is a great deal of creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving on behalf of our students, staff, and families to make this new schedule a success.

Finally, we are interested in parent involvement in our planning process for fall 2021. We will be sharing more information on how to participate in an upcoming focus group by month's end.  We look forward to benefiting from our collective efforts.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Trisha Kocanda
Superintendent
