Whether a new or a returning student, I am pleased you have chosen Cuyamaca College for your education goals. I know this semester looks and feels different than you expected. It's very different for us too. We're in this together; and together we will navigate our new reality.
I am proud that the faculty and staff at Cuyamaca College worked over the summer to transform courses and student support services to better serve you in our remote modality. The faculty and staff at Cuyamaca College are all committed to helping you succeed. If you need help, please ask. We are happy to get you connected to right department and team member.
Online learning may seem intimidating, but I encourage you be patient with yourself and your instructor. Communicate with your instructor about challenges and difficulties you may be experiencing. And, if you need additional support there are many, many resources available to you at no cost. I am including website links, email, and phone numbers below that may be helpful as you start the new year.
I will miss seeing all of you as the year begins. I work in education because I know how it changes lives. I am a first-generation college student, and I navigated many of the challenges that work to derail the hope that education represents. Like you, I worked multiple jobs and juggled family obligations. When I ask the Cuyamaca College faculty and staff to help you succeed, I know how much their support means for you.
We may be apart physically, but #WeAreCuyamaca and we are #CuyamacaStrong.
Warmly,
Julianna Barnes, Ed.D.
