Meet: Steve & Nancy Kozuch
Featured Volunteers
"We did not realize how much work is required -- 365 days a year -- to give necessary nutritional and medical care to dogs and cats in need. The shelter's manager and staff deals with a large daily workload including emotional stress, while never giving up hope.
"Knowing what shelters face every day, we started to foster about six years ago, helping pregnant dogs through gestation and whelping. We love to see the babies through their neonatal and socialization stages of development. Helping the mother dog and pups is a true privilege!
"Orphans of the Storm staff and volunteers create a successful environment for homeless animals from rescue to rehabilitation to adoption. More dogs and cats could benefit from having the opportunity of being taken from a shelter environment into a loving foster home, but we need more people that can help. We hope that you might join our 'foster team!'"
According to
Shelter Manager
Bethann Galbraith, "Steve and Nancy are fosters that I know I can count on to care for their fosters just like one of their own dog family. They are willing and have cared for moms and their puppies that are a breeze. They have taken care of families that come with medical issues that require extra care and attention. They have made it possible (as is the case with all our fosters) for Orphans to be
able to help so many that need a safe place to be loved and nurtured until we can find them
forever families. Our foster pets receive tons of love and attention plus socialization with them and their pack. I cannot say enough how much their becoming part of our foster program has meant to me and all the animals that have stayed with them."

Happy first day of fall!
We had a wonderful summer and have found many special orphans homes (check out our Happy Tails column!)
Our spay clinic continues to spay and neuter many animals to reduce the number of unwanted animals born.
There have been several successful fund raisers, as well!
Whether you volunteer with the animals, at our clinic or special events, your help is so appreciated.
Thanks for all that you do for our orphans!
We look forward to cooler dog-walking weather and the autumn colors!
See you around the shelter!

Dear Charlotte,
I love dogs & cats and want to help! I have been hearing about your "foster home program" and would like to learn more ....
Signed, "Want to make a difference"
Dear friend:
Orphans so desperately needs foster homes for both puppies and kittens. Our fosters provide a safe place for orphans too young (or, in some cases, not even born yet) until they are old enough to get their shots and be spayed or neutered. This can be two months.
Please watch our two videos on fostering.

Orphans of the Storm is located in Armstrong County. We were established in 1969 to provide temporary shelter for unwanted and abused animals. We match lovable animals with loving forever homes, educate the public on humane, responsible care of all animals, and promote spaying and neutering to reduce companion animal overpopulation. Orphans of the Storm is a no-kill animal shelter. This means we euthanize an animal only if it is suffering with no hope to be cured, or if the animal is a danger to people or other animals.
