ULI HOUSING COUNCIL MEETING
|
|
This week, BIA-LAV CEO, Tim Piasky, conducted his inaugural meeting as chair of ULI's Missing Middle Subcommittee. In addition, today, he participated in a robust discussion of potential housing solutions at ULI’s Housing Council meeting. As we know, affordable housing is not affordable and increases in housing production costs push hard-working families and individuals, like teachers and first responders, further from housing affordability.
BIA-LAV has been at the forefront of these important housing issues and recently developed the
Housing Emergency Response Kit
that provides solutions to hurdles facing housing. Learn more

LA COUNTY PASSES SUSTAINABILITY PLAN
|
|
The Los Angeles County "
OurCounty” Sustainability Plan
" was adopted on Tuesday. The Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the motion and will start the implementation process beginning this month and throughout the next several years.
BIA-LAV Director of Government Affairs,
Diana Coronado
, testified at the hearing with comments that cautioned against any action that would increase the cost of housing or that would complicate the already cumbersome entitlement process. We are encouraged that the Board motion included a more detailed implementation approach. For more information please email

LONG BEACH INCLUSIONARY ZONING STAKEHOLDER MEETING
|
|
On Tuesday, the City of Long Beach hosted their second Inclusionary Zoning Stakeholder meeting. The invitation-only developer stakeholder focus group was attended by, roughly, 12 builders, architects and real estate professionals. The presentation was the same one that was previously shared at the June 29th workshop. The new information shared were timeline updates; at the end of August, the Planning Commission will hold a study session on inclusionary zoning, and thereafter staff will prepare a draft ordinance.
Unfortunately, the City has still not released their full feasibility study. Without this vital information stakeholders will be unable to understand the data, calculations and methodologies that went into preparing the analysis, recommendations and drafts for a suggested inclusionary policy. BIA-LAV has sent an initial comment
letter
responding to the limited information that has been released.

“
Thank you BIA-LAV for the work you did to get our project completed on time! Scheduling, communication and project management with utilities can be challenging. BIA-LAV’s connections and resources that intercede on our behalf were instrumental in maintaining our delivery schedule. Your advocacy meant our new homeowners closed on time!
