5 Steps to SLDJ (Serve Like Jesus Did)!

The Church doesn't exist for the sake of pastoral councils, schools, choirs, publications, or parish events - wonderful as those may be.  We exist to bring the good news to those hungering for a positive message with eternal consequences.

How?  By first serving like Jesus did, then by sharing his message as he did, evangelizing.  We serve like he did when our serving is rooted in our love of God. He met peoples' immediate needs before feeding their deeper need - knowing God.  And no task was too lowly and no person unworthy for Jesus' help, healing and Good News.

So how do we SLJD - Serve Like Jesus Did?  By emulating him!
  1. Schedule daily prayer and conversation with the Lord.  Invest in your relationship with him as you do your family and friends.
    • Pray for a change of heart if you're "not feeling it."
2. Listen to how he is calling you to use your skills, talents and time.
    • Pray for strength to do his will.
    • To be effective, we need to match our talents to others' needs, not suffer through a ministry we loathe.
3. Go about your day putting others first.
    • Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
4. Free your schedule.
    • Sacrifice your time, abandon your plans if God calls you to do so.
    • Ask yourself why you're doing what you do.
    • Ask for Jesus' insight to help you prioritize.

5. Put yourself in a position to serve.

    • Meet the needs people have.
    • Place yourself among people who need to see and feel the love of Jesus.  (That's everybody, right?)
