Youth Advisory Board to Begin Meeting in September
The Cinema Arts Centre is forming a Youth Advisory Board which will begin meeting monthly in September. Nassau and Suffolk County residents ages 15-25 are invited to apply to be a member of our Youth Advisory Board. The group will help to ensure that the Cinema Arts Centre serves the needs of young people in our community. Youth Advisory Board Members will meet monthly and will gain experience in branding, marketing, event-planning, and more.

We are excited to announce that Northport High School teacher Mr. Darryl St. George will be serving as teacher/advisor for the group. Mr. St. George brings profound experience to this endeavor, as a teacher and a community leader. Mr. St. George also leads the service group Students for 60,000 , who recently were guests at the Cinema Arts Centre for a compelling forum on the opioid epidemic and other complex social issues.

Youth Advisory Board Members will receive a complimentary Young Film Fan Membership for the duration of their service. Young Film Fan Members receive discounts on all CAC screening and event tickets, and an invitation to a free screening every month.

Many Thanks to All Who Made Our Garden Party Such a Great Success
On Sunday, August 18th, the Cinema Arts Centre held it's annual Circle of Friends Garden Party and Brunch. Attended by over 100 of our deepest supporters, board members, civic leaders, and our Circle of Friends volunteers , this event was a wonderful opportunity to be together, and to particularly acknowledge the year-round work of our fundraising volunteers.

The event was sponsored by Bottles and Cases , Amy's of Huntington , CAC Board Member Jude Schanzer, bee-ORGANIC , Best Bagel A Round , Butera's Restaurant , Munday's , Parea , Quetzalcoatl , and Southdown Marketplace .

Board Co-Chair Dr. Davenport (Mike) Plumer opened the program by announcing that long-time board member Steve Rubin will be serving as the new Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. Mike also introduced representatives from local government who were in attendance, including NY State Assemblyman Andrew P. Raia, Huntington Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia, Marissa Espinoza, a representative from the Office of State Senator Jim Gaughran, and Huntington's Chief of Operations Gregory J. Atherton.

Co-Director Charlotte Sky then called for a moment of silence for our late Board Member Shirley Romaine, who died earlier this year.

Char then thanked all of the event sponsors, including the many Cinema Star Restaurants who provided our delicious brunch fare. Char thanked all of our Board Members, and invited Dr. Isabel Pavao-Horvath to the podium. After ten years of outstanding service, including serving as a productive and engaged member of the Development Committee, Isabel has retired from the Board. Isabel's made many meaningful contributions to the Cinema Arts Centre, including serving as Chair of the 40th Anniversary Gala Committee, and serving as Chair of the Circle of Friends Task Force, the group that ensured the successful formation of our Circle of Friends group. Char thanked Isabel for her wonderful service and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, contributed by Amy's of Huntington.

Dylan thanked many generous contributors in the room, our event volunteers who helped make the party such a great success, and many members of the CAC staff team. Dylan then led the attendees in singing happy birthday to Board Member and Circle of Friends Board Liaison, Steve Fisch.

Steve then thanked all of our Circle of Friends volunteers for the extraordinary work they did over the last fiscal year, promoting membership, raising funds during the Life of Our Cinema Campaign, and planning our annual Academy Awards Night Fundraiser.

To close the program, Circle of Friends member Joan Isaac announced this year's recipient of the Dr. Frank B. Siegel Memorial Service Award. This award, named for Joan's late partner, is awarded each year to a Circle of Friends volunteer who had an extraordinary impact on the Cinema's outreach and fundraising activities over the past fiscal year. This year, the award went to our new Circle of Friends volunteer coordinator, Margaret (Peggy) Hendrix.

Thanks to everyone who made this such a wonderful event, and thanks to all of our volunteers and supporters whose generosity and involvement help to make all of our programs and activities possible, year after year.
