This Month at Métis Housing

Métis Week is coming up fast! November 14-20 will be filled with events that celebrate our Métis community. Of course, Métis Housing couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to be a part of it. What better way to celebrate our community than to eat together! Come join us for another Drive-Thru Breakfast Date: November 19 Time: 8-11 a.m. Location: Métis Housing office at 11923 121A Street, Edmonton We will have granola bars, bannock, yogurt, eggs, and juice, but more importantly, we will cherish being together, even if it is only for a short hello as you receive your breakfast. As temperatures dip, leaving some of us without a warm place to call home, November is the perfect time for YEG Housing Month!  YEG Housing Month is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of the various safe, affordable housing initiatives and sustainable strategies our city is, and has been, implementing towards our collective goal to end homelessness. We invite you to join us and community partners each week for free virtual Lunch and Learn sessions to discuss a range of housing topics and hear from community organizations on the frontlines of affordable housing initiatives in our city. On November 9, learn about our Reaching Home Program with Trea StormHunter, the Director of Programs for Métis Capital Housing. She will focus on available supports , the application process and turnaround time, and how we operate within a Métis culturally sensitive framework. Mark your calendars! Virtual Métis Week is happening November 14-20! There will be online workshops, contests, and fun for the whole family! Stay tuned to the Metis Nation of Alberta website and social media accounts to find out what's happening when. There will be events all over the city and virtually! From the lighting of the High Level Bridge, Edmonton Public Library’s the Forgotten People Project, Fort Edmonton Park’s Bright Light Festival, the unveiling of Métis Memories of Residential School Mural, live streams, workshops, bingo night, youth and child events, to our drive-thru breakfast and so much more. We can't wait to share a whole week of Métis culture, history, and activities with you!

Métis student scholarship opportunity!!! Drayden Insurance has graciously created a scholarship to better support Métis post-secondary students in their academic careers. Four lucky students will receive a $1,000 scholarship towards their tuition – two students through Métis Urban Housing Corporation and two through Métis Capital Housing Corporation. This scholarship is by nomination. Do you know a deserving student?
