NOTES
SKATING
This Friday, December 10 Aqua and Caelum houses will go ice skating. Please remember to pick those students up at the Fenton Chester Arena at 3:15. Email Nelia if you have any questions about which dates your child is skating.
TEACHER APPRECIATION MEALS
There are still slots to sign up! Twice each year Riverside parents show their appreciation for our teachers with a series of catered meals and packaged leftovers. This effort is meant to be in lieu of any holiday (or end of year) gifts that families might usually offer. You can choose to:
  • prepare general breakfast dish
  • prepare vegan- and gluten-free breakfast dish
  • set up and clean up breakfast (approx 7:30-8:30)
  • prepare vegan- and gluten-free lunch dish
  • prepare general lunch dish
  • prepare salad
  • prepare dessert
  • set-up and clean-up lunch (approx 11:15-1:15)
Thank you in advance, from all of us!
MYTHOLOGY DAY
Next Friday, December 17, will be our annual Mythology Day celebration. It is the half day before the holiday vacation, and so Early Dismissal will be at 1:15 for PK-5th graders at Riverside and 1:30 for 6-8th graders at the ice rink.

During that morning’s assembly, 5th-8th grade students will be in costume and speak about their individual characters, broadcasting to us through this link, if you'd like to join. Questions about 5th-grade costumes and presentations should be directed to Hanna, middle-school to Nathan.

Afterwards, K-7th graders will rotate by pod through a variety of activities led by the 8th graders. These lesson activities are an important step in the development of leadership skills for the 8th graders, as they plan and then facilitate the same one multiple times. We are working with them to create activities that meet our standards for limiting exposure to other students.

At the end of the day, all K-8th graders will participate in the "Urn of Fate," a classically themed gift-exchange. Each student should bring in a simple, wrapped gift, with a value not greater than $5 by Wednesday the 15th and give them to their classroom teacher or to Nathan. This year we will be exchanging gifts in pod-groups, so you can purchase something attractive to a student of similar age: K-2nd, 3-5th, and 6-8th.

The Afterschool and Extended Day Programs will run, please email McKenna or Sean specifically if your child(ren) will be attending so they can plan the long afternoon accordingly.
LOST & FOUND
Please check out this album and remind students to come claim what's theirs from the lost and found collection in the cubby room.
RACE BACK TO SCHOOL
The pledges are finally all in and counted! Riverside families raised $3737 through pledges to their efforts to hike, run, and bike on Kingdom Trails last August. Thank you so much to everyone who participated, to the parent organizers Mel Finn (7th graders Molly and Pearl) and Carmenza Montague (3rd grader Antonia and 6th grader Ignacio), and ESPECIALLY to the students who helped lead the effort by sending emails and messages to their friends and other families to encourage them to join in the fun: 6th grader Ignacio Montague, 7th graders Molly and Pearl Aeberhard, and 8th graders Camryn and Lydia Reimert.
MIDDLE SCHOOL INSTRUMENT LESSONS
We are looking to grow our music program with the goal of creating a full concert band. Marie is offering one-on-one lessons during the school day as part of the music program (no additional cost) for 6-8th grade students who are interested. Students can choose from flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet/cornet, or percussion (bells, snare drum, bass drum). We have some school instruments that students can borrow on a first come, first serve basis. Rentals are available through Ellis Music and can be coordinated by emailing Marie. Please talk to your child(ren) about learning to play an instrument and reach out to Marie if they are interested.
CHRISTMAS TREES FOR RIVERSIDE
The Cobb family (7th grader Esme) would like to share the Christmas trees growing on their property with any Riverside families who want them. Thank you to parent Travis Keller (kindergartener Vivian and 3rd grader Alice) who has already been hard at work trimming the trees for us! Bring your saw, rope, and muscle to their home at 425 Jones Road, Lyndonville (only left-hand driveway after the mailboxes) on any Saturday or Sunday, between 10am-2pm. Please text or call 802-498-5982 in advance so they can put their dogs inside. Signs will guide you from their driveway toward the tree lot . In exchange, please make a donation of your choice (suggested $40) to Riverside by bringing payment to Krystal in the office or giving it to the Cobbs if you see them at their home.
WINTER FINE ARTS NIGHTS
We are planning two evenings later this winter to celebrate student efforts in music, band, chorus and studio arts. A rotation of performances, art on display in different spaces, and an outdoor gathering near a bonfire will allow us to enjoy the students' efforts while staying safe and warm. Mark your calendars for Thursday, January 20 (PK-5th) and Friday, January 21 (6-8th). More detailed information will be in Monday Memos next month.
BOTTLE DRIVE UDPATE
The bottle drive has been wonderfully successful, totaling $830 in donations of cans and bottles for the Lyndon Area food Shelf. We are very thankful for what the families and community have done! All returnables are accepted that have VT label on them. Individual returnables can be left in the bottle drive box in the back of the house. Bags may be left near the dumpsters. Please email Student Council VP Jeremiah Watson if you have questions.
8th GRADE FAMILIES
Join St. Johnsbury Academy students in their guided, in-person campus tours on Friday afternoons this January and February. Tours will be approximately one hour in length, and will give prospective students an insider view of our campus, facilities, and programs. Sign up at this link.

RIVERSIDE'S ANNUAL FUND
While there have been many examples of the dedication and caliber of Riverside teachers over the years, perhaps no period in the modern history of education has required so much from educators as the last two years. In support of our teachers and the creative activities and engaging programs they design, we invite you to participate in giving to our annual fund. Please consider in giving to Riverside to help us bridge the gap between tuition and expenses. It's not the size of the gift that matters but the gesture of participation.
