We hope you are enjoying the summer break!

Re-Entry in August
In preparation for school re-entry in August, the District collected crucial information from our parents through a survey that will help inform our decision-making and planning.
Our ultimate goal is to select the best strategies and instruction models that will keep students safe and provide optimal learning experiences. Our planning is informed by what we learned - both positives and negatives - from the spring emergency Non Traditional Instruction.
We are committed to improving upon that experience for the benefit of all Boone County students. This will not be easy. There are barriers and unknowns to overcome. Thank you for your patience and collaboration.
A summary of what we know and what we do not know:

First Day of School
The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 12th. This date is tentative based on information and updates surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to another great school year here at Coope even though we are experiencing unprecedented circumstances. It's hard to believe this will begin our 13th year! We are busy preparing in anticipation of August 12th.

SBDM Minority Parent Needed
Now that our election for parents has concluded, we are still in need of a minority parent representative. We will hold a special election for parents on Thursday, July 9 during office hours (7:00-3:00 p.m.). If you are a parent of minority status and interested in being our minority parent representative, please contact
Principal Wilson
via e-mail ([email protected]), along with a brief statement about yourself, no later than Sunday, July 5th @ 12 midnight.
The law defines "minority" as "American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central or South American origin; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school."
"Parent" is defined as parent, stepparent, foster parent, or person who has legal custody of a student with whom the student resides. In effect, a parent of any student currently enrolled and attending Cooper High School this fall as well as those parents of registered incoming students, may vote or run for Council positions.
A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or relative of an employee of this school, the district office, or a local school board member. (Relative is defined as "father, mother, brother, sister, spouse, son, daughter, husband or wife").

Laptop for School
Every student is encouraged to bring a personal device, other than a cell phone, for the 2020-2021 school year. Teachers will continue to utilize our online learning management system (Canvas) to provide students with a blended learning model of teaching and learning to best meet the needs of all students. Many resources such as math textbooks and other resources across content areas will be uploaded for students to access on Canvas via a laptop or chromebook. Students and teachers will continue to integrate and use technology to enhance learning and provide students with the skills needed to be college, career, and life ready.
The Boone County School District and Cooper High School are not recommending what type of device to purchase for your student(s). With costs varying widely among types of devices, brand, and capabilities we encourage you to research and discuss what device will best meet the needs and interests of your student. For further guidance and suggestions,
We do have a limited number of chromebooks in each classroom should a student need one to use.

Camp Jaguar
Camp Jaguar for our incoming freshmen has been tentatively set for Friday, August 7th from 8:00-12:00 noon.
This will be a great day for your freshman student to feel more comfortable about high school, build friendships, find their classes, open their locker, opportunities to get involved and many other essential things to make the transition to Cooper as smooth as possible! Students are paired with their Freshman Mentoring Group and Leader and they can't wiat to show you around Cooper and get to know you! This group will be together throughout the school year during J.A.M. (Jaguar Achievement & Mentoring) time.
Due to Covid-19, we are looking at three options for Camp Jag.
1) Hopefully, we can have our normal, in-person, Camp Jag where you will meet your mentors, tour Cooper, find your locker, and even learn about school spirit at Cooper before having lunch. This event involves ALL freshmen joining us at RCHS from 8 am to noon.
2) We realize option one might not be possible, but are going to try hard to have something at Cooper. Our second option will involve each JAM room coming in at a different time. You will be assigned a time to join us at Cooper according to your third period class. You will still meet your mentors, tour Cooper, find your locker, learn about school spirit and enjoy lunch with your mentors. This option will allow us to still meet together while practicing safe social distancing.
3) If we are unable to meet in person, we still plan on having Camp Jag virtually on Friday, August 7th. With this option, our FMPs will be producing a video highlighting school expectations, providing a virtual tour of the school and concluding with a virtual meeting with your mentors and class.
We would LOVE it if you could join us! Please register below if you are able to make it as well as providing us with some information to help make the day possible!
Please take a moment to register your freshman student at the link below so we can adequately plan for those attending. Students receive a free t-shirt as well as lunch.

Student Drivers
For students that are interested in driving to school,
Click here to open our parking policy and requirements. A driver's license is required to purchase a parking permit. There are plenty of parking spots for students to purchase throughout the school year as they get their license. If you meet the requirements, please fill out the areas on the
parking form and turn in during our payment of fees and schedule-up day on Tuesday, August 6th.
Parking across the street on Kroth Lane, Alson Place and Hawk's Landing subdivisions are strictly prohibited. A county ordinance restricts on-street parking from 8:00-3:00 p.m. during school days.
We will have designated areas for each grade level; seniors with the parking spaces closest, juniors next and then sophomores. You can only purchase a parking pass if you have your license. There are plenty of parking spots for students throughout the school as they become eligible and receive their license.
