You're Invited: Kickoff for Walnut Bend Reconstruction

Westchase District is about to move forward with the largest capital improvement project it has ever undertaken: a $20 million reconstruction of the section of Walnut Bend Lane that runs from Westpark Drive to Westheimer Road.

To celebrate the launch of the project, we're hosting a kickoff event at 9 a.m., Tuesday, September 10 near the intersection of Walnut Bend Lane and Richmond Avenue. Representatives from Westchase District, the City of Houston and other local government officials will be on hand to mark the start of the project, which is expected to take about 20 months to complete.  The event is free and open to the public, so save the date and look for more details in future issues of The Wire.

The third Thursdays of each month this summer at the farmers market features special activities for children and their families. Rounding out the summer on August 15,  Pat D'Agrella from PEAS Farm will lead special pickle-making classes, where for a small fee, kids can make pickles on the spot and take them home in a jar to enjoy later.

Plus, we'll have FREE face-painting and a pet parade, as well as the Harris County Master Gardners leading kid-friendly activities. So pack up the family and enjoy one last summer fling at the market on Aug. 15!

Retail, Service Centers See Increased Occupancy in Q2

Every quarter, our office makes personal contact with the folks at each of the 261 properties that make up Westchase District to get the latest on who's in, who's out and how things are going. We've compiled our occupancy data for Q2 2019 online for your easy retrieval and review, but we thought we'd also give it to you at a glance:
  • Apartments: 92%
  • Hotels: 67%
  • Office Space: 81%
  • Retail: 83%
  • Service Centers: 92%
Among the data: retail occupancy rose 2% over last quarter, while service center occupancy edged up by a percentage point, representing a 5% increase over this time last year. Both numbers are an encouraging show of confidence in the area and a validation of the efforts of the District to attract and retain high-quality tenants.
