Congregational meeting on associate pastor search

The Session has called a congregational meeting for the purpose of approving the terms of call for an Associate Pastor for Congregational Life and Care. The search committee would like to thank all who have supported their efforts over the past several months and ask for your continued prayers that the Spirit would prepare the way for vibrant future ministries for those who will serve here.

Retirement celebration for Anne Lowrance
Sunday, Aug. 25 at noon in Fellowship Hall
All are invited to celebrate Anne Lowrance, who has served the Presbyterian Church faithfully in ministry for 40 years, the last nine being here at Covenant. 

With her warmth, patience and unwavering love for children, Anne has been an abiding presence in the journeys of Covenant families - often from the moment they enter the Education Wing. Anne's last day on the Covenant staff is Aug. 31.

Covenant names high school youth director
Welcome, Martin Pruitt
Martin Pruitt will join the staff on Sunday, Aug. 25 as Director of High School Youth Ministry, reporting to Grace Lindvall, Temporary Minister of Education. 

Since 2013, Martin has served as the Director of Youth and Christian Education at Sharon Presbyterian, where he reinvigorated and increased participation in youth programs. In addition to leading regular youth activities, mission trips and Montreat conferences, he made time to help lead Bulldog Prayers - the multi-faith devotional group at A.G. Middle School. Martin holds undergraduate degrees from Presbyterian College and Masters degrees from Union Presbyterian Seminary.

In his spare time, Martin enjoys playing rugby with the Charlotte Royals and completing home renovation projects with wife, Anna. Please join us in welcoming Martin to Covenant and supporting his ministry among our youth and their families.

Hear from leaders and innovators about the role of faith in professional life. A panel discussion is  Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
  • This week: Hear from Covenant staff members who work behind the scenes. We'll learn how they feel called to serve God through their professional roles.
Civil rights trip to Deep South landmarks
Reserve seat by Friday; tour is Sept. 20-22
A group from Covenant will visit civil rights landmarks on a bus tour that includes inspiring talks by eyewitnesses, historians and experts. Scholarships are available.  For details and to register,  click here .

Service opportunity on Labor Day Weekend
Prepare a meal for families in emergency shelter
Consider preparing dinner for families living in emergency shelter on their way out of homelessness through Charlotte Family Housing. Volunteers will prepare a meal for 15 to 20 people and deliver to Hawthorne Place at St. John's Baptist Church. Contact Julia Watkins for details.

We are helping students get prepared
When you shop for school supplies, consider buying extra items for children at Highland (Charlotte) and Crossnore Elementary (Avery County). Drop-off bins are in the Rec Wing and outside Lucy's office in the Sanctuary building.
  • Red, blue or green notebooks and pocket folders; pencils; crayons/markers; composition notebooks; gluesticks; notebook paper and children's scissors. In addition, tissues, hand sanitizer, sharpies and Post-its for teachers. 
Associate pastor for education
This position strengthens current programs, transitions programs where necessary and creates educational opportunities for all Covenant members and Covenant neighbors. In addition, this pastor will be responsible for leading worship and preaching on a regular basis. Learn more here.
 
Staff Singers
Staff singers provide leadership through excellent example of musicianship, technique, rehearsal decorum and punctuality. There are two to three calls per week including weekly rehearsals and Sunday services. Learn more here.
