Gelli-Plate Printing
with Mary Maisch
Saturday, September 14 12pm - 4pm
$40 members $50 non-members
$2
0 materials fee
Limited to 8 participants
Play with gelli plates, stencils, string, leaves, and other pattern-making materials as you cover papers with layers of acrylic painted monoprints. Your beautiful papers can be used later to make one of a kind artist books, folios, notecards, or gift boxes. Gelli plates are a firm but flexible surface used for rolling out paints or printing inks, upon which you arrange objects, stencils, or make marks that transfer to a paper when you rub it over the plate. Learn all about it! You'll take home a small gelli plate for continued experiments on your own, and learn how to make your own plates for future use. Gelli plates, paint, Shizen, Strathmore, and Canson papers, stencils and other mark making materials will be provided.

WORKSHOP
Concertina Album Binding
with Margo Klass
Saturday, October 26 10am - 4pm
$60 members $70 non-members
$15 materials fee
Limited to 8 participants
The concertina album binding elegantly holds a collection of photos or other images. When sitting on the shelf this album looks like a traditional book, but when open its panels stretch out for display. In this class we'll learn how to cut, fold, and hinge lengths of paper to make accordion-folded panels, cover boards with book cloth, inlay a cover plate, and join text block to cover structure. If you bring images to class, we will add them to the album.
UAF Rasmuson Library Display
IMPRINTS
Stop by the Rasmuson Library at UAF to see the new display! Recently installed is an exhibition of Imprints, the first publication of the Guild's Northwoods Press. Included are examples of the the book itself, its casement, the colophonic booklet, and one of the 11 broadsides. A selection of photographs will remind all those who worked on the book of our 3-year journey together to complete this very special project.

THE SEWN BOARD BINDING
A MODEL BOOK
BY ROBERT LAVADOUR
The Sewn Board Binding, a model book by book artist Robert Lavadour, is one of the treasures brought home from Focus On Book Arts (FOBA). Members attending the Guild's July meeting were able to see it. This beautifully crafted cut-away model demonstrates all the nuances of good construction of this basic binding.
The book is sold out but you can email Roberta here to get on the wait list for the next edition. See more photos here.
