DJ Smiley is Back for
Glow in the Dark JA Bowl-A-Thon
If you've attended past Junior Achievement of South Florida events, you know how much JA loves promoting young entrepreneurs.
DJ Smiley (high schooler Gavin Diaz) is one of them. He has been a staple at most of our signature events, including
JA World Uncorked,
Ultimate Night Out and the
JA Bowl-A-Thon. Check out his highlight video:
DJ Smiley will be back for the
2019 JA Bowl-A-Thon, which is
September 20th at Strikes in Boca Raton and
September 27th at SpareZ Bowling in Davie. His mix of dance music was a hit with last year's bowlers, who enjoyed the party atmosphere. Help us raise funds for JA programs. Join our Glow in the Dark fun event, which is perfect for corporate teams, friends and family!

JA Career Bound Grad Shares His Experience in Leadership Program
"JA Career Bound has motivated me to one day start and manage my own personal business using the many tools and skills I learned while in the program. I am better prepared for today's workforce! Program days, including my favorite visiting Celebrity Cruises, introduced us to career opportunities within the various industries."
- Kaleb Santil, 11th grade.
In our cutting-edge, skills building leadership program, high school students
visit some of South Florida's premier businesses to learn firsthand about the career opportunities and what companies are looking for in future employees. Students learn from top executives who share their journeys to success. At the end of the year, students will have the opportunity to put their skills into action by participating in various paid internships with job shadowing.

Future Entrepreneur Meets with WPLG Channel 10 Mentor
Junior Achievement of South Florida continues to connect future entrepreneurs and leaders with business innovators. Thank you,
Bert Medina, General Manager of
WPLG Channel 10, for meeting with JA Fellows participant Ross Zoutte, from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Ross was part of the Pure Serenity team that captured 2nd Place "National Company of the Year" at the JA National Student Leadership Summit.
Bert shared some words of wisdom, such as "find and follow your passion" and "sometimes you need to rock the boat to move forward."
In addition to supporting our high school programs, WPLG Channel 10 has an incredible hands-on storefront in JA BizTown, where 5th graders run their own TV station/news broadcast.
For more information about the JA Fellows Entrepreneurship program, contact
Martha Rios at (954) 979-7103 or email

JA Blog: Buying Local in a Buzzing Economy
How many times have you heard "Buy Local" or "Support Local Businesses"? Probably hundreds of times. So why this "local" push? What does it do for you or your community? With summer here, the concept of buying locally will only increase, specifically about your local farmers' markets. While providing you with delicious produce, farmers markets potentially have a more significant impact on the community than it does just in your fridge.

Junior Achievement of South Florida inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a competitive, global economy by providing real world training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness.
