The Transportation Policy Council met on July 26. Patrick Gant with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Houston District, presented the North Houston Highway Improvement Project - Segment 2 and addressed traffic flow, safety, flooding, and additional concerns.

The approved resolution committed $100M in Category 2 funds for the implementation of Segment 2 of the project; $1.5M for community planning activities that complement on-going efforts to identify additional measures to mitigate potentially adverse impacts on communities adjacent to Segment 2; and, $50M of eligible federal transportation funds for the implementation of recommendations from the community planning activities.

The council also approved an amendment to the 2019-2020 Transportation Improvement Program and the 2040 Regional Transportation Plan. These amendments will program the City of Galveston’s FY 2019 Transit Operation Funds.

The Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) resolution was adopted by the policy council. This program describes the transportation planning activities to be undertaken by local governments, transit agencies, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the Houston-Galveston Area Council over a two year period. Through the development of the program, regional transportation planning priorities are identified. The planning activities described in the document are supported with federal, state, and local funds.
