It's cold and flu season...
|
|
In addition to the threat of COVID-19, it is also cold and flu season. We understand that it is tempting to pop by the Library when you or a family member are feeling under the weather to get books, puzzles, or a comforting movie.
But, we ask that for the safety of our staff and our patrons, that you NOT visit the library if you or a family member are ill or feel like you're coming down with something, even if your symptoms don't resemble COVID-19. Cold, flu, strep, and stomach bug germs can be just as contagious.
Thank you so much.

Winter is upon us! Let’s celebrate all the cozy things that go along with the chilly Winter season!
Visit Sturgis Library’s Cozy Window in the children’s room every Wednesday and read one of Maurice Sendak’s Chicken Soup With Rice poems! After you read the poem, scoop up a hot chocolate packet then check out a few library books and you’ll have all the ingredients for a cozy afternoon back home!
Every Wednesday, a new Chicken Soup poem will be featured. This will continue for twelve weeks!
Everyone deserves to be cozy during the winter and warm socks are one of the coziest things you can wear. Socks are one of the most requested items by those in need. If you are able, please donate NEW, packaged socks to our neighbors in need.
Donations can be dropped in the basket located under The Cozy Window in the children’s room. They will be brought to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod.

We understand if you fall in love with your tiny book and want to keep it but if you’re able to part with your creation, we would LOVE to place your tiny book in our little bookcase at the library. You can bring your tiny book into the library or you can mail your tiny book to:

Art Displays at Sturgis Library
|
|
The Blethen Family will display their great grandmother's collection of paper dolls in our lobby display case. Mrs. Marylin Blethen had aspirations to attend Rhode Island School of Design for fashion, but never had enough money and as a married lady, could not go to university. However, she would spend hours cutting, making, and sketching clothes for these cut-outs.

Leslie Altman will be displaying her water color paintings in the Lowell Room this month!
Leslie Altman began painting at the suggestion of a friend who recommended taking a class, and she immediately fell in love with watercolor. She has now been painting for about twelve years.
Leslie works in her studio in Yarmouth Port and en plein air. Leslie’s landscapes attempt to capture feeling through color and light. Her subjects include Cape Cod scenes, as well as landscapes from travel abroad and closer to home, and still life. Works for this exhibit include original paintings and giclée prints. .

Sturgis Library has had to cancel three of our annual fundraising events due to the COVID-19 closure -- our spring Library Gathering, our Jewelry Sale, and our annual Plant and Garden Sale. We are unsure if we will have to cancel our fall fundraising events as well. In addition to the cancellations, we have lost the revenue from our Book Shop, which represents a substantial loss of income for us.
Sturgis Library is an independent nonprofit organization, not a Town department. We received only 40% of our funding from the Town of Barnstable in FY2020, and we have learned that our Town funding will be reduced in FY2021.
If you've never donated to the Library before, please consider making a donation now. And if you have donated already, please consider an additional donation to ensure that we can continue to provide quality service to he community.
Thank you so much.
