We reached out to leaders of Youth Activists of Alameda to ask them five questions about what it has been like to take a lead role organizing large-scale events during this time.

EHS Students Document Textbook Bias
Students at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School have created a documentary about their trip to New Orleans, their awakening to the realities of the plantation system and slavery, and the way those realities contrast with what's taught in textbooks. They had planned to premiere the documentary in March, but the pandemic interrupted that. Want to learn more? You can watch the film and learn more about its background in our community bulletin.

AUSD Educators Initiate Anti-Racist Book Groups

Reminder: Every Alamedan Counts!
Although census events and door-to-door counts are limited during a pandemic, being counted still matters! Funding and services for our school district, our town, and our county very much depend on census data. It's a super-fast, confidential survey that you can take in just minutes.

Kudos to...
Edison Elementary School for being featured as a Green Ribbon School by both the US Department of Education and the California Department of Education this week. Both agencies feaured the Edison Otters' achievement on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
Student Board Members Brian Lin and Henry Mills for taking new positions with the newly formed California Student Board Member Association! Brian will be leading the CSBMA "Take a Seat" campaign, which advocates for putting more student members on Boards of Education. Henry has been appointed the organization's Director of Communications. Great work, board members!
Paden Elementary School for receiving recognition from the California PBIS Coalition for an "outstanding contribution of support and care during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and resulting disruptions to school." We appreciate Paden's remarkable support of its school community and will have more information about this in an upcoming newsletter.
