President's Note

I hope the first week of school was a good one for all.  PTA is still collecting dues, classroom funds, directory orders, and SOS donations.  When becoming a member of HCES PTA you are also becoming a member of Alabama PTA and National PTA.  We forward a portion of your $20 dues payment to cover the AL and Nat'l memberships.

The SOS request is our first fundraiser for the year. To see where your PTA donations are being spent we are including a Where the Money Goes section in the newsletter.

If you are not receiving this newsletter via email, please sign up via our website at hcespta.com.

Congratulations!

The current HCES PTA would like to extend a congratulations to Karen Whitaker, Lucinda Johnson, and Autumn Bray for working so hard on the National PTA School of Excellence last year.  We received word late last week that Hampton Cove Elementary was awarded the 2019-2021 National PTA School of Excellence designation!  We could not be prouder of our school and our parents!!

Parent Volunteers

Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something

THANK YOU to all who have signed up to volunteer!  We have three active sign ups going right now, room parents, happy cart, and event/committee volunteers.  Please check them out and see if there is a good fit for you.

Room Parents:  We have just a few classrooms that could still use a room parent, especially Pre-K classrooms.  The SignUp Genius for room parents is:

Event/Committee PoC and helpers:  PTA runs committees and hosts multiple events throughout the school year.   We need a person of contact to assist with some committees and in the coordination and execution of these events.  We have quite a few openings.  Please consider taking on one event this school year.  If you want to assist with the committee/event, but do not want to be the PoC, please still sign up!
The SignUp Genius for committees / events is:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409044eaeaa2aa4fa7-hces

Library:  The library is gearing up for students as well.  If you'd like to be added to  the monthly sign up please email Mrs. Ellett at [email protected].  We will link the sign up here as well each month, once it is created.

Happy Cart:  The Happy Cart is a bi-monthly breakfast cart offered to all staff.  Goods can be purchased or baked.  We ask for two volunteers to facilitate and offer up to, but not exceeding, $50 reimbursement.  The SignUp Genius for Happy Cart is:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409044eaeaa2aa4fa7-happy

After School Enrichment

Fall 2019 after school clubs!

It is almost time to sign up your children for after school clubs.  Fall after school clubs start the week of September 9th and run through December.  All club information and registration links will be on the PTA web page and will be promoted via the PTA facebook page.

Club registrations will start August 16th.

We expect to have Art, German, Music, Chess, Elementary Electronics, Eco Explorers, Basketball, Golf, Dodgeball, and Hip Hop available.  Not every club is available for every age group.

Administrative policy changes have driven some changes in our clubs this year.

1) All registrations must be turned into clubs no later than August 26th.
2) All payments, registration, and after club arrangement information is collected digitally.  No checks.
3) All children enrolled in clubs will walk from their classrooms to the gym, where they will meet their club leaders and then go as a group to their classrooms.
4) Club releases will occur outside of the school, at the front porch by the main entry doors.  Parents are not authorized to enter the school to pick their children up from clubs.  All parents must wait outside for club leaders to bring the children down and sign them over to their parents.

Where the Money Goes

HCES PTA relies on your generous donations to fund the events and programs we do.  A lot of these programs are invisible to the parent, but utilized by the child, so we will periodically highlight where your monies go.

Subscriptions:  A large beginning of the school year expense is subscriptions to programs such as BrainPop, Spelling City, and Scholastic.  Ask your child about these fun programs used in the classroom.

Teacher Funds:  Teachers are provided funds to enhance their classroom.

A/R Necklaces:  If your child has been through 1st grade at HCES you know the importance of these necklaces!  Each child earns a necklace and achievement/celebration charms as they begin their Accelerated Reader journey.

Teacher Copies:  PTA covers the district billed expense of the copies teachers make.
