Message from Mayor Tom Roach
Dear Residents,

Congratulations! We are now in Phase 3 of reopening following the COVID-19 shutdown and can look hopefully ahead to Phase 4 in the coming weeks.

As we move further into resuming our normal behavior it remains essential that we all continue to wear our masks and take common sense precautions when we are out and about.

While we are being cautious we also have to look forward. You may have noticed that construction activity has resumed in the city and that more and more of our local businesses have reopened.

  • We modified the sidewalk dining permit process in June to encourage more restaurants to take advantage of this outdoor dining option and processed more than double the number of permits we usually process!

  • We worked with the White Plains BID to present a drive-in movie series and continue to work with the business community on ways the city can encourage a safe return to normal activity.

We all want to see our vibrant downtown active and bustling again, and I believe we will get there.

I want to thank our residents and business community – our success is due to the fact that we have all worked together, making continual progress toward our goal.

With my sincere appreciation,
Mayor Tom Roach

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FILL OUT YOUR CENSUS FORM!

The City of White Plains has had a good overall response rate, but some neighborhoods are lagging behind. So, here's our friendly reminder to fill out your Census! It only takes a few minutes. And ask your neighbors if they have completed the Census as well. Tell them how important and how easy it is.

Did You Know?
Each person counted = $2,400 in annual funding for White Plains for:
HOSPITALS - HOUSING - PUBLIC WORKS - HIGHWAYS -
EDUCATION - NUTRITION PROGRAMS
The Census can be completed online : www.2020census.gov
Or by telephone:    English:  844-330-2020  Spanish:  844-468-2020

** Census Workers will be going to the homes of non-responders
beginning in August. **

Let’s work together to make sure that we are all counted in White Plains.
GET OUT INTO THE FRESH AIR, WHITE PLAINS!
All City Parks are Open for Passive Recreation
White Plains Opens Extension of
Harrington Greenway Walking Trail
The City is excited to announce the extension of the White Plains Greenway Walking Trail and pleased to be able to provide this park enhancement for its residents.

The Greenway provides a protected path for individuals and families to enjoy a walk in a natural setting.
The Greenway is located on the site of the former New York, Westchester, and Boston Railroad that operated from 1912 to 1937. In 2012 the City officially named the Greenway in honor of Jack Harrington, a community activist and preservationist.

The Greenway can now be accessed from Bolton Ave., Gedney Way and Ridgeway. Historical markers along with remnants of the original bridges and building foundations have been retained for the public to enjoy.

All work on the new portion of the Greenway was performed using City Department of Public Works manpower, and using available materials from other City projects. Work began in the winter, paused briefly during the Pandemic, and has just been completed. Kudos to the Department of Public Works! Special thanks to Rich Stangarone who, as Superintendent of Highway and Grounds, took a special interest in this project. He is also retiring this month after 38 years with the City, so this was a wonderful project to end his illustrious career!

Battle Hill Dog Park is Up and Running!
Now there are two!

...And speaking of enhancements to White Plains parks, we've got another for you. The recently opened Dog Park in Battle Hill Park (at left) on Battle Ave at McKinley Ave joins the Bark Dog Park on Brockway Place, opposite Delfino Park, as the place to go to give your canine companion, small or large, a place to frolick off the leash.

Some special COVID-19 rules are in effect. Check the signs at the dog parks and bring a mask for all two-legged visitors.
DINE & DRIVE IN MOVIES COME TO WHITE PLAINS!
When our normally full event calendar had to be drastically changed this year due to COVID-19, the Recreation & Parks Department started to think about how we could bring people together in a safe and fun way. Partnering with the White Plains Business Improvement District (WP BID), we were able to present our first ever drive-in movie series for residents. Our last movie will be shown on July 3 rd , and so far, the series has been a resounding success!
