WILLIAMSBURG, VA
- The Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions (VAPDC) unveiled a new logo for the Association during its annual Summer Conference last month, during which it also celebrated 50 years of regional collaboration. The logo, used in this release, was debuted to the VAPDC membership during the annual business meeting, and then featured prominently during the VAPDC Awards Luncheon shortly thereafter.
The desire for a new logo and messaging for VAPDC grew out of the organization's strategic planning discussions during the past two years. Formation PR, a North Carolina-based public relations firm, was engaged to work with the Association on this effort.
Formation PR conducted an extensive review of the VAPDC and planning district commission history and surveyed each planning district commission as part of its work to create logo options and messaging suggestions. The VAPDC Board of Directors approved the new logo at its meeting in late June.
"This new logo and our ongoing messaging and communications will demonstrate the value of PDCs and convey their qualities as convener, collaborator, resource and solution provider to local governments and state agencies," said 2020 VAPDC President Kim Callis.
Planning District Commissions were enabled by state legislation in 1968 and most were established the following year. There are 21 PDCs and Regional Commissions in Virginia made up of elected officials and citizens appointed by local governments. The purpose of Planning District Commissions is to encourage and facilitate regional solutions to problems of area-wide significance. This is done by promoting the efficient development of the physical, social and economic policies of all districts by assisting local governments to plan for the future. The PDCs of Virginia joined together to create the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions in 1987 to share best practices and further regionalism across the Commonwealth.
