An Update from the Assistant Headmaster
Dear Parents and Families,

Warm greetings to you as we enter into August! Things are still relatively quiet around school, but will pick up very soon! We look forward to seeing many of you at the annual Parent Fiesta next week on Tuesday the 13th!

By now you should have received our full summer mailing with lots of back to school information and a few forms. I wanted to send a few notes today on some things we are doing a little differently this year than in the past.

Online Forms
We introduced the use of Permission Click last January as a way for families to fill out forms and collect signatures and permission. We have been very happy with how the system has worked and are expanding its use for this year. You should have received invitations by email to your primary household email account for two different forms. The first form is your method for requesting Non-Public Aid money for our school to provide for textbooks, nursing, and counseling services. The second form replaces the Annual Health Update and provides all the health and insurance information that is necessary not only to start the year, but also that we typically request when students participate in field trips. Collecting all this information in one place now will allow for our future permission forms for field trips to simply acknowledge, “Yes, my child may attend” and “All the health information remains the same,” without needing to write or enter it every time.

Student/Parent Handbook on Educate
In an effort to us less paper (and perhaps save come clutter around your home!), we will be making the Handbook available online through Educate, and only providing printed paper copies upon request. The Handbook will be available as a document attached to a student’s K-6 Homeroom or 7-12 Attendance section. We will be using Permission Click to collect the annual acknowledgement and agreement form for the Student/Parent Handbook, as well. We will have more details about this at the Parent Fiesta and our Back to School events on Thursday the 22nd.

Email Addresses, Office 365, and Educate Access for High School Students
I am also very excited to share that in an effort to increase communication between teachers, administration, and students, I have been working with our IT Department to create individual “saintagnesschool.org” email addresses for each of our students in grades 9-12. In addition to email addresses, each student account will have an associated account with Microsoft’s Office 365 platform, which is perhaps the most robust suite of office software available. Students will be able to access their documents from any device connected to the internet and use either Office Online, or install the Office apps onto home computers, laptops, or other devices. Finally, we will be working to create individual student accounts for access to Educate, so students have individual access to use Educate to monitor their own progress without needing to use their parents’ accounts. We will be rolling out these services to high school students in the first few weeks of school and providing additional formation and guidance on acceptable use.

For each of these three items, I am hopeful that we can make appropriate use of technology to do what we do even better. I am grateful for the insights from members of our Parent Liaison Group as each of these things have developed. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about any of these new initiatives. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Freshman Picnic on Wednesday of this week and next week at the Parent Fiesta.

God Bless,
Mr. Karl Hendrickson
Assistant Headmaster
