Top Ski Resorts in Durham:
A Thrilling Winter Experience
By: Chris Mitchell, Traveling Mitch

Winter is a season to get outdoors, explore and have fun! Skiing offers an adventure to be enjoyed all season long, and in Durham you have three resorts to discover. So, rather than hide indoors and wait for winter to be over, get outside, enjoy the crisp winter air, hit the slopes, and experience the thrill of skiing in Durham instead.

This year, it’s not about looking back on winter memories from the past, it’s about creating new memories that you can look back on years from now. One of the best ways to fully welcome and embrace the wonders of an Ontario winter is to head to the ski hill. Here in Durham Region, we’re lucky to have great options that are located nearby, while simultaneously allowing you to feel world’s away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Ice Fishing in
Durham Region
No matter the season, Durham Region is home to the best fishing in the Greater Toronto Area. You will find world-renowned multi-species fishing on Lake Ontario, Lake Simcoe, Lake Scugog, Bowmanville Creek and a number of other connecting tributaries.

This winter plan a trip to Beaverton and experience the best ice fishing on Lake Simcoe. Beaverton is home to decades-old ice fishing businesses, coupled with some of the best fishing spots in Ontario. Anglers target trophy lake trout, whitefish and jumbo perch during the winter months.

Experience the snowy landscape and serene, invigorating sport of ice fishing on Lake Scugog in Port Perry. Anglers target bluegill, perch and crappies during the winter months.
Want to Support Local?
Skip the Delivery Apps and Order Direct
From the February 2021 archives, but still relevant, is the importance of supporting local businesses through restrictions in their services. Read on to learn how ordering direct can help support your favourite foodie destinations.

Shop local. Support local. These calls to action are resonating with the public more than ever during this time when the economic survival of our communities, as we know them, depends on all of us. It is unfortunate (though not surprising) that restaurants and dining establishments are so significantly impacted by COVID-19. Many restaurants in our Downtowns of Durham rely not only on exceptional food and customer service, but also on their charming or convenient locations. In the interest of public health and safety, however, many of our downtown restaurants have had to shut down their dine-in operations for the time being.

At least there is delivery and takeout, right? Several establishments that have managed to stay open have experienced a significant influx of takeout and delivery orders placed through popular delivery apps. It appears that Durham residents are rallying en masse to support their local eateries, which is excellent.

But… is it?
