SBA and Treasury Announce Simpler PPP Forgiveness for Loans of $50,000 or Less
WASHINGTON (October 8, 2020)—The U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the Treasury Department, today released a simpler loan forgiveness application for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans of $50,000 or less. This action streamlines the PPP forgiveness process to provide financial and administrative relief to America’s smallest businesses while also ensuring sound stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
“The PPP has provided 5.2 million loans worth $525 billion to American small businesses, providing critical economic relief and supporting more than 51 million jobs,” said Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin. “Today’s action streamlines the forgiveness process for PPP borrowers with loans of $50,000 or less and thousands of PPP lenders who worked around the clock to process loans quickly,” he continued. “We are committed to making the PPP forgiveness process as simple as possible while also protecting against fraud and misuse of funds. We continue to favor additional legislation to further simplify the forgiveness process.”
“Nothing will stop the Trump Administration from supporting great American businesses and our great American workers. The Paycheck Protection Program has been an overwhelming success and served as a historic lifeline to America’s hurting small businesses and tens of millions of workers. The new form introduced today demonstrates our relentless commitment to using every tool in our toolbelt to help small businesses and the banks that have participated in this program,” said Administrator Jovita Carranza. “We are continuing to ensure that small businesses are supported as they recover.”
SBA and Treasury have also eased the burden on PPP lenders, allowing lenders to process forgiveness applications more swiftly.
SBA began approving PPP forgiveness applications and remitting forgiveness payments to PPP lenders for PPP borrowers on October 2, 2020. SBA will continue to process all PPP forgiveness applications in an expeditious manner.

Teddy G’s Pub & Grille Joins Coats for Kids Effort
Sturbridge, MA – Teddy G’s Pub & Grille, at 179 Main Street, Sturbridge, will be conducting a month-long winter coat drive beginning Monday, October 26 and ending Wednesday, November 25, according to owners Ted and Jenna Gidopoulos. The local effort is being conducted in partnership with the Anton’s Cleaners Coats for Kids program that each year aims to collect 50,000 warm winter coats for individuals and families in need.
“This has been such a challenging year that we wanted to do something special to help out the local community and to thank everyone for their support,” says Ted. “That’s why we’ve decided not just to collect coats, but to also offer a discount to customers who participate in the drive.” Customers will receive a 15% discount off the food portion of their tab on the day they bring in one or more coats for the drive, according to Gidopoulos.
“To obtain the discount,” he added, “customers should place the coat they wish to donate in a bag, and present it to the host on arrival, who will exchange it for a coupon to be presented with your payment at the end of your meal. Your server will then deduct 15% from the food portion of your bill (the discount does not apply to alcoholic beverages, tax or tip).”
Coats for Kids accepts warm winter coats - kids, adults, and babies - that are gently used, good quality, and all sizes (especially XL and infant/pre-K sizes). The drive does not accept coats with rips, tears, broken zippers, or permanent stains, nor does it accept sweatshirts, vests and spring coats. “Please donate coats you would give a friend to wear,” advises Jenna, “and please be sure to empty out all pockets.”
All donated coats are cleaned free of charge by Anton’s Cleaners then made available to a network of over 90 distribution partners made up of local nonprofits, social service agencies, schools, and religious groups to ensure the coats are given to those who really need them, also free of charge.
Teddy G’s is a casual American Pub & Grille that is open for dining and take-out Sunday to Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Currently operating in compliance with state and national safe distancing guidelines, dinner is presently being served both indoors and outdoors under a heated tent. Reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. daily at (508) 347-1900 or (508) 347-9300. Walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis from 3 p.m. until the restaurant reaches capacity.
Partners for this year’s Coats for Kids drive include Anton’s Cleaners, Jordan’s Furniture, Enterprise Bank, Boston 25 Cares, Kiss 108FM, Jam’n 94.5, 101.7 The Bull, WBZ 1030, 97.7 The Beat, WRKO, and 100.7 WZLX

Harrington HealthCare System Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program Certified by Industry Leader
SOUTHBRIDGE, MA, October 2, 2020 – Harrington HealthCare System announced today the certification of its Cardiac Rehabilitation Program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification is in recognition of Harrington HealthCare’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing standards of care.
Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems (e.g., heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery) and pulmonary problems (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], respiratory symptoms) recover faster and live healthier. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling and support for patients and their families.
Harrington HealthCare’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is located inside Harrington Hospital. It offers individualized, multi-phase approach to helping patients return to an active and fulfilling lifestyle after cardiac surgery or a cardiac event. Treatments are provided through a team approach between the patient’s primary care doctor and cardiologists, nurses, and an exercise physiologist. Treatments include medically supervised exercise and strength training as well as cardiac health counseling and education sessions to help patients reduce and manage risk factors.
To earn accreditation, Harrington HealthCare’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the program’s practices. AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other related professional societies. Each program’s application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee, and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.
In 2018, AACVPR moved to an outcomes-based process with performance measurements that represent more meaningful outcomes. Therefore, AACVPR-certified programs are leaders in the cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation field because they offer the most advanced practices available and have proven track records of high quality patient care. AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years.

Second Chance Online Auction a Great Way to Start Holiday Shopping and Help Pets
DinnerLESS Auction has Something for Everyone
EAST BROOKFIELD, MA (October 9, 2020) – Second Chance Animal Services DinnerLESS Auction is offering a great way for supporters to start their holiday shopping. The online auction, which kicked off October 3rd, features four groups of items up for bid with one group closing each Sunday evening through November 1st. The proceeds from every winning bid supports all the Second Chance programs that help pets in need.
Popular items include gift baskets ready for gifting and gift cards to local businesses. Supporters can also bid on one of a kind experiences like a tour of a Boston TV station or a week’s private lodging in Cannes, France or Big Sky, Montana donated by friends of Second Chance for travel to look forward to when things open up.
The auction also features handcrafted items like a pair of Adirondack chairs created by the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office, a beautiful handmade quilt, adorable metal cat and dog garden sculptures and more.
Second Chance Development Director Lindsay Doray is hoping the online auction will be a big success. “2020 has been a year filled with challenges and uncertainty, but the one thing is certain - pets need help now more than ever.” Doray notes that all three hospitals are seeing a tremendous increase in calls for help caring for pets. “Our staff has been amazing, working so hard to help as many pets as we can. With so many people furloughed or unemployed, many pet owners have nowhere else to turn when their pet becomes ill or injured.” Second Chance offers subsidized pricing for qualified low-income households to help keep pets with their families and out of shelters.
Doray expressed gratitude to all who donated the item and to the sponsors for their support when the event was moved online. “The DinnerLESS Auction was made possible by the generous support of RE/MAX realtor Wendy Johnson in loving memory of Pam Crawford. Pam Crawford was a longtime supporter of Second Chance who devoted her life to her family and to helping people find a home. She will be greatly missed by all.”
Interested supporters can visit www.secondchanceanimals.org for links to each block of auction items and they’ll also find this year’s DinnerLESS Auction video with a look back at the nonprofit’s work in 2019, an update on COVID-19 efforts along with behind the scenes footage and some adorable Second Chance alumni.

Make Your Woods Bird Friendly - TLGV and Partners Launch
Next Round of $6.1 Million
Southern New England Heritage Forest Grant Program
Attention woodland landowners: Funding is available to improve your woodland habitat for important bird species and to manage your woods for wildlife and people. The Last Green Valley (TLGV), the MassConn Sustainable Forest Partnership (MassConn) and the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District (NRICD) are pleased to offer the next round of funding for woodland landowners to obtain forest management plans with bird habitat assessments.
The program is part of the $6.1 million Southern New England Heritage Forest conservation effort, an unprecedented three-state collaboration made possible through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The NRCS funding is being matched, bringing the economic infusion into the region to $12.2 million.
A professional forester will walk your property and coordinate with the Audubon society in your state to produce a high-quality forest management plan with a bird habitat assessment of your woods. The plan will recommend measures you can take to improve the health of your woods. The plan will meet federal and state requirements and may be used to apply for property tax reductions at the local level (where applicable).
Grant funds are available to pay for most of the forester’s costs and to completely fund the bird habitat assessments. Landowners will be responsible for choosing a forester from an approved list and paying for a percentage of the total cost of the forest management plan.
This program is ideally suited for landowners who have never had a forest management plan and own more than 10 acres of woodlands.
Program requirements vary by state. To get started, contact the lead partner for your state. The partners can assist with the application process. The application deadline for Connecticut and Rhode Island is Dec. 31, but we recommend you begin the process early to ensure the application is complete before the deadline. Massachusetts is accepting applications on a rolling basis so you may apply at any time.
Visit www.thelastgreenvalley.org for links to the application materials, including a list of communities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island that are included in this program.

Are you ready to pivot?
What a challenging time this year has been! So many of us are feeling like Humpty Dumpty, either teetering or sliding off that wall, trying to figure out how to put our businesses, our lives back together again.
This is a moment when we will either look back and say, "I stayed down on the ground" or "I found a way to pivot," to get back up again.
I'll admit I struggled on the ground for a while as I watched my trainings and speaking engagements one by one get cancelled. And I will admit my inner ability to inspire and motivate myself began to wax and wane.
Did I wallow for a time in self-pity? Yup! Was I ready to call it quits and retire? Nope! And that "Nope" my friends, was what kept me from falling off Humpty Dumpty's proverbial wall.
It was time to pivot. Time to take tactical action.
I worked out a feasible fee structure for my coaching clients who were also feeling the financial pinch; offered free stress management meetings via Zoom, which gave me purpose.
And I stopped being oblivious to the obvious and listened to that inner signal. Now was the perfect time to take my programs from conference center rooms to your living room.
LIVE! Online Programs
Each of the programs has been restructured as a 60-90 minute program.
Life is less about what happens to you and more about how you respond to what happens to you. Know how to adjust; know how to pivot.
And now I have a big favor to ask: Spread the word about these programs. Share this email with others. And I hope to "see" you soon.
"Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go." ~ William Feather
Enjoy your day. And pivot.
~ Rita

Dante’s Journey for a Third Chance
Second Chance Rescue Dog Returns After a Month on the Run
EAST BROOKFIELD, MA (October 14, 2020) – Oh, the stories she could tell, if only she could talk. Seven-year-old beagle mix Dante, who underwent surgery for a broken leg after being hit by a car earlier this summer, returned to Second Chance Sunday night after a month on the loose.
“It’s like a story out of a children’s book where the heroine overcomes her fear through strength and determination to return to the people and place where she first knew love,” said Second Chance CEO Sheryl Blancato. “Over the past month, Dante traveled over 15 miles from Hardwick all the way back to East Brookfield after escaping from her foster while recuperating from surgery.”
Animal Relocation Director Wendy Hall is thrilled to have Dante back, safe and sound. “We wish she was wearing a tracker. Somehow, she got from Hardwick to East Brookfield. She was seen in Barre around the farms and then nothing for 2 weeks but apparently, she was making her way back here!! She is in pretty good shape. She was finding food someplace on her travels because she actually gained two pounds. She's pretty clean and her leg is very sore, but we expected that.”
An East Brookfield resident began seeing Dante around the center of town. They contacted Blancato about a scared, stray dog that no one was helping and asked if Second Chance could help. “From the description we put two and two together. We immediately put up a rescue trap to try and help her. When she didn’t go in after a day or so, and it appeared she’d moved across the street, we enlisted the help of Missing Dogs Massachusetts to set up a second trap that secured Dante.”
Second Chance Shelter Manager & Vet Tech Shauna Griffin, who had repeatedly searched for Dante while the dog was on the lam, was watching the live camera as she entered the trap set up to secure her for a safe return. Griffin was so excited; she admits she was screaming as she alerted others and Dante was quickly brought back to the Second Chance Adoption Center.
Dante got a checkup and x-rays Monday at Second Chance’s North Brookfield Community Veterinary Hospital. She’ll remain at the adoption center for a respite after her adventure and staff will continue to monitor her.
