Rockland rep Nita Lowey, pro-Israel stalwart, says she won’t seek re-election

WASHINGTON — Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., who represents Rockland and Westchester counties, and is a pro-Israel stalwart and one of the most influential Jewish lawmakers, said that she will not run for re-election to Congress next year.

In her announcement last Thursday, Ms. Lowey, 82, noted that she was the first woman to chair the House Appropriations Committee, the lower chamber’s most powerful committee, and included upholding the U.S.-Israel relationship among her accomplishments.
Empowering women in Rockland

The JCC Rockland, Rockland Jewish Family Service, and Good Samaritan Hospital will offer the Women’s Empowerment Symposium on Tuesday, November 12, beginning with workshops at 5 p.m.

The keynote speaker, the Israeli-American author Naomi Ragen, will speak at 7:30. There will be health and wellness workshops, vendors, and a grab-and-go dinner from Lillian’s Cafe. Workshops include Budokon yoga, a discussion about “Talking to Kids About Food and Their Weight: Helping Without Hurting,” mindfulness, music and movement; Zumba, and a discussion on breast health.
