NYCPM Grads Praised by Dean
Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81), VP of Academic Affairs and Dean, announced in mid-July that of 62 NYCPM graduates who took the NPBME Part III Boards for the first time, 61 passed, a 98% pass rate. Nationally, 96.9% of the 324 first-time takers passed. Dr. Trepal called the results "superb!"
The Part III Boards enable successful takers to receive state licensure.

Trustee Choi Appointed to Municipal Court Bench in New Jersey

was sworn in as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey on July 24
th.
T
he Honorable Patrick J. Arre, Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Hudson County presided and administered the oath. Mr. Choi had been elected in November 2018 for a three-year term as a Councilman in the Borough of Leonia, but stepped down from that position in July 2019 to accept the judicial appointment. Mr. Choi was confirmed by the full governing body of the City of Hoboken on July 10, 2019.

Farewell (for Now) to Maeve Corcoran
 At the lunch for the Canadian students, NYCPM also bid farewell to Maeve Corcoran, BSc, MSc, a senior podiatrist at Mater Misercordia University Hospital in Dublin. Ms. Corcoran has been here for five months, working as a research associate with Dr. Chusid; she helped organize the recent Poster Day. She will be working with Caroline McIntosh of NUI Galway on the next Transatlantic Wound Science and Podiatric Medicine Conference, scheduled for next year.

at the recent annual meeting of the APMA in Salt Lake City. Arthur Tarricone attended the meeting, and accepted the $250 prize. The posters were on display during the conference so the judges could view/critique as their schedules permitted; the judges were all practicing podiatrists.

President Levine Thanked for His Financial Generosity to NYCPM
COO Joel Sturm formally thanked President and  CEO Louis L. Levine on behalf of NYCPM for the latter's numerous financial contributions to the College via the Millennium Fund, the President's Fund and the Louis L. Levine Scholarship Fund, all of which he established. Mr. Levine is responsible for raising over $2.7 million to date for NYCPM. As Mr. Sturm noted in his letter, "These donations have allowed for the success of this institution by maintaining its rich tradition of graduating the country's top doctors of podiatric medicine."

Dr. Joseph S. Fox Joins NYCPM as Consultant
Joseph S. Fox, DPM ('74), MPH, will be NYCPM's  new consultant for community affairs, COO Joel Sturm announced in mid-July. Working out of the President's Office suite, Dr. Fox will help with outreach to alumni in coordination with Dean Lisa Lee, will help with outreach to organizations in coordination with Director of Community Outreach for FCNY Daniel Persons, and serve as a mentor to both students and residents.
After graduating from NYCPM, Dr. Fox completed a two-year residency in Maryland and earned his MPH at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health - the first DPM to earn an MPH at that institution. He has practiced in Baltimore, New York and New Jersey, teaching surgical skills in New York as an attending at Beekman New York-Downtown (now Weill-Cornell) and at St. Vincent's Hospital. He has set up screening programs and sports medicine programs in Baltimore, and was a consultant for podiatry for SAG (the Screen Actors Guild) in New York as well as on the medical panel as a consultant to the UN.

APMWA Announces 34th Annual Student Writing Competition
The American Podiatric Medical Writers Association (APMWA) has announced its 34th Annual Student Writing Competition.
- All papers must be non-technical in nature. Appropriate subjects include practice management, ethics, law, education, or any topic that would be suitable for a lay publication.
- There is no word limit. Papers will be graded for content, style, grammar, neatness, and overall impact.
- First prize is one thousand dollars ($1,000); second prize is seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750); third prize is five hundred dollars ($500), sponsored by an APMA Educational Foundation endowment from Dr. and Mrs. Steven Berlin, and recognition in the APMA NEWS and the APMWA Newsletter. Honorable Mention Certificates may also be awarded.
- This competition is open to any enrolled podiatric student.
- Entries must be received by 4/1/20 via e-mail at [email protected]
Entries become the property of APMWA, which may arrange publication of the entry.
