Board of Supervisors Meeting Highlights - August 7

Stormwater Management Fee Public Meeting
Immediately following the regular meeting, engineers from  Lennon, Smith, Souleret Engineering presented information and answered questions about the proposed stormwater management fee. Over the next few months, township staff and engineers will work to develop an ordinance that describes the details of the fee. Before the board votes on the ordinance, public comments will be welcomed at a public hearing which will be advertised.

The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on M AG-TV, Comcast channel 18 or Verizon channel 37. The meetings are rebroadcast throughout the month on MAG-TV.  Check the website for times. You can also watch a recording online . View the meeting agendas in advance here .

Sewickley Bridge Construction Public Meeting
Thursday, August 15
5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Sewickley Public Library

Sewickley Bridge construction is slated to begin in 2020. In cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, PennDOT District 11 is hosting a public meeting. Representatives will discuss the project's scope, traffic plan and schedule and will answer questions from attendees.

The construction schedule has not been finalized, but the work is expected to start in April or early May.  The draft plan, which is subject to change, includes nightly single-lane restrictions for preparatory work, weekend closures, and one 10-to-14-day full closure of the bridge.

Raccoon Rabies Vaccine Baiting

Over the past 18 years there has been a significant reduction in human and pet exposures to rabies throughout Allegheny County. This is largely due to the efforts of the rabies vaccination program for wild raccoons spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services (USDA), who the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) partners with for this massive effort.

This year, employees and volunteers of ACHD and the UDSA will be distributing vaccine-containing  baits from August 5 through August 21 across Allegheny County. Please keep your dogs on leashes during this time so that the raccoons eat the baits instead of your pups.

Baits will be delivered both by hand from ground vehicles and by helicopter throughout the county. In Moon Township, baits will be distributed by helicopter only.

The risk of adverse effects to humans and animals due to exposure to the vaccine is minimal, but the public is encouraged to avoid contact with the bait if possible. If a stray bait must be moved, it should be picked up using rubber or latex gloves or a shovel.

Visit the Allegheny County Health Department website for more information.

In response to the sudden removal of glass from many residential recycling programs in the Pittsburgh area, Pennsylvania Resource Council (PRC) launched a network of pop-up glass recycling events in March 2019. The pop-up sites are sponsored by local governments committed to recycling and who recognize that glass remains a recyclable material with vibrant demand in the regional and national recycled materials marketplace. The pop-up event in Moon will accept all colors of glass bottles and jars from the public at no cost. Please note that window glass, drinking glasses, stemware and ceramics will not be accepted.
