Camp CSTP

About 70 camper-educators joined CSTP in North Bend for our annual Camp CSTP, a week full of professional learning, awesome educators, a beautiful setting, good food (the cusabi (cucumber + wasabi) dressing is to die for), rock painting and happy hour fun. We started the week with three work groups commissioned by OSPI to look at equity in the instructional frameworks, student growth goals and special education professional development segments. In the middle of the week, campers delved into their teacher leadership knowledge and skills, emphasizing their equity lens, and took that further into work with their collaborative teams. We ended the week with a new session on the instructional coach and principal relationship and how those roles work side-by-side, together and parallel in their support of teacher learning. If you didn't make it this year, we hope to see you next year for Camp CSTP that will take place July 20-24, 2019.

State Wide Clock Hour ChangesCH

The Professional Educator Standards Board convened a workgroup to review Washington clock hour policies. At the July 2019 board meeting the PESB approved changes to clock hour policies based on the recommendations of the workgroup.

A few notable changes include:
  • Minimum number of clock hours offered changes from 3 to 1.
  • Clock hours may not be offered to individuals serving as the instructor for a course where they are the only participant.
  • Providers may not provide blanket approval to all of another organization's courses. Each course must be approved individually.
  • Continuing education units from accredited colleges or universities, whether in-state or out-of-state, will now be accepted as clock hours. Other non-credit bearing units, such as Professional Development Units (PDUs), will also be accepted.
For a comprehensive list of policy changes, visit the PESB website.

CSTP is an approved clock hour provider. To request clock hours for an upcoming training for your training or book study, visit the CSTP website.

NBCT Lynne Olmos on Corelaborate WAShowcase

NBCT and Stories from School blogger Lynne Olmos recently guest blogged on Corelaborate WA to discuss her changin g views on what college readiness means.

"So many of them diverged from their initial plan. They dropped out of college, they switched majors, or they graduated and then did something entirely different. We prepared them to start college and we convinced them it was the right thing to do, but we had not given them the experiences to determine the best fit for themselves as individuals."
