Art Exhibit: Fiber Arts North East (FANE).
August 1 - 31, during library hours. Reception: August 3rd, 12-2 pm. Fiber artists from New York and Connecticut joined forces in 2006 to become Fiber Art North East, the group known FANE .  We meet on a monthly basis to exchange information and ideas about fiber art and to plan projects which we exhibit in various venues. We learn from and inspire one another. The exhibit, "Alphabetica", was created by 21 fiber artists who made a separate piece for each letter of the alphabet.  A coloring book with a drawing of each piece has been published and will be for sale at the exhibit.

W.I.N.K.: "What I Need Known"

Date:  9/10/2019
Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM

W.I.N.K. (WHAT I NEED KNOWN)- Important Information about Me: Join us on Tuesday, September 10 from 6:30 to 8 PM - What if you are suddenly incapacitated, hospitalized, or worse? What vital information about you do family and friends need to know? The Friends of the Somers Library, in collaboration with the library staff and Tracy Christen Reimann, Esq., have created a program featuring a document that each person should complete in case of emergency, called "WINK (What I Need Known) - Important Information About Me". At the presentation, you will receive a copy of this document and will be instructed on its general use. A "WINK- Important Information about Me" document is a significant gift for your loved ones as well as a significant self-care document. Categories include Personal Information, Financial Information, Health Information, Information about my Home, and Final Wishes. Each person completes and keeps their own document, to be left easily accessible to others, and includes the details they want to share - from basics like the garage door code, to information about the care of your pet, to how you pay bills, or where your important legal papers are stored. You get the idea. Registration is required to ensure your blank document copy is available. Please contact the library at 232-5717 to register.

From the Somers Library Foundation...

Librarian and author Vicki Myron said "A great library is one nobody notices because it is always there, and always has what people need." The Somers Library is a great library.

The Somers Library relies on public and private funding. The Town of Somers provides the Library's annual operating budget, but this alone will not deliver "what the Somers Community needs", i.e. the new programs, innovative services and advanced technologies Somers residents have come to expect from their Library. To tackle needs beyond the Library's annual budget, the Foundation was formed in 2011 and serves as the Library's philanthropic partner, raising private gifts and seeking grants to support the Library's strategic priorities.

The Somers Library Foundation's Eighth Annual 5K Trail Run and 1 Mile Family Fun Run are scheduled for Sunday, September 15, 2019
The Trail Run will be followed again this year by the Somers Education Foundation Chili Cook-Off.

Last year, more than 80 local families and community minded businesses sponsored the Trail Run. More than 100 runners, joggers and walkers of all ages filled the Reis Park ball fields and surrounding nature trails. Many volunteers helped organize the event. As a result, more than $12,000 was raised for much needed library projects! Over the years, funds generated from this event helped fund significant Somers Library facility improvements, including the new vestibule and community information center, upgraded Community Room acoustics, and the new reference and circulation desks.

If you would like to be a race sponsor, race volunteer, runner, jogger or walker, or even just want to spend a nice morning in the park to support our great library, please visit www.SomersLibraryFoundation.org for more information or call us at (914) 361-9979.
