August 11, 2019: A Trustworthy Ally
August's "Soul Matters" packet asks the question, "How does one learn to be a trustworthy ally?" How can we help repair trust while we're all living in an unjust society and making microaggressive mistakes? We work with some of the "Soul Matters" articles on racial justice, allyship, and trust-building in connection with life lessons learned from preschoolers and seminarians. Our explorations will focus on racial justice and white allyship but include wisdom relevant for all who experience some form of privilege (by being white, male, able-bodied, upper-class, cisgendered, etc.). Though we cannot appoint ourselves anyone's allies, let us explore together some behaviors that will help us grow toward genuine, healing allyship.
Piper Rowanoak Swim is a student at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley studying to enter Unitarian Universalist ministry. She is also a NeoPagan, stepmother of two, and Garden teacher at Aquatic Park School, a preschool in Berkeley.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 18, 2019: Participation Service Dick Park
The Participation Service has its roots in the Quaker Meeting. There is quiet music and introductory words at the beginning, and quiet music at the end, but in between, the silence is broken only by individuals sharing thoughts and feelings that are significant to them.

SUMMER-ENDING SEPTEMBER 21 SUNSET FERRY CRUISE FUNdraiser is headed our way! See the Flyer in the foyer @ UUCM. We are always wanting to put the FUN in fundraiser and this one is it! We sail out to the Golden Gate Bridge just at sunset time & return, all the while having a convivial time with each person's hearty hors d'oeuvres to share and their favorite beverage. Your little cooler to transport the goodies is perfect. We will have a champagne toast to begin our journey (compliments of Rich & Glynda) and then let the libations, song-singing, good times begin! This is a good fundraiser to get your friends to; it not only supports UUCM ($20 of the $50 ticket goes to UUCM, $30 for Ferry ticket) but, what a beautiful, serene end-of-summer evening! The point is to share, to enjoy each other, to have fun on a Ferry, and to support our spiritual home! Contact Board Member Rich Panter at
rpanter@gmail.com, or Glynda Christian at
gjchristi@gmail.com, or phone them: 707.875.8911.

Sandy Levitan, one of our newer members of UU, will be offering a theater activity, called Theater On The Go, for the fall of this year.
The North Bay has at least six live theater companies that offer entertainment, education, and enlightenment throughout the year. Sandy will be selecting up to three plays a month, that can be attended together or separately.
Tickets will be purchased by the participants.
Depending on when we see the plays, we can have a discussion afterwards, especially if we have a dinner following a matinee. Or if it's an evening performance, we can meet another day/night at her house or another member's home. Meeting at UU is also a possibility.
Sandy will always be attending all of the plays assigned, but if members can't make it on a particular date, they can always go at their own convenience.
Carpooling is usually an option.
Sandy has been facilitating this activity at the OLLI program at Dominican University for 11 years. Prior to that she had been involved as an actor and director for at least 20 years.
If you'd like to join Sandy, please email her at
sandralevitan@comcast.net
.
Plans will be emailed several weeks ahead.
