Sexual Harassment Notification
To All Chamber Members with 5 or more employees: Effective January 1, 2020 the State of California is requiring all companies with 5 or more employees to provide classroom training and education regarding sexual harassment. Town Hall Theatre is considering hosting this training in early October and wants to open its doors to any other small businesses that want to join. Right now they want to see which companies and how many employees per company would be available to attend. There would be a small fee per attendee. The number of attendees will determine the cost. The sessions may be held on either October 2, 3, 7, or 10 starting at 7pm. If you or your company is interested please contact

Get involved with your community – be a part of Business Volunteer Impact Program 2019!
Contra Costa Crisis Center compiles volunteer projects with nonprofits in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to be completed during the event in September. This year, the event is one month long, and runs from September 9 to October 5. The majority of projects are ½ day in length, and many projects are offered on multiple days. Your team of 6-50 (or more) employees can review the projects, and then sign up for the project via our portal. Project descriptions will provide location, times, parking, tasks, and details needed to select a suitable project for your team. Select one or pick multiple projects for your team throughout the week. There is no fee for your team to participate. Registration begins on July 22 and ends on August 14. State Boards & Commissions Appointment Workshop

You are invited to State Boards and Commissions Appointment Workshop, co-hosted by Speaker Anthony Rendon and the League of California Cities Women's Caucus on Thursday, August 22nd in San Ramon. Experts will be on hand to explain how you can apply for an appointment to a State Board or Commission, and will share some best practices for a successful application.

Candidate Training Program
Have you ever thought of running for office but didn’t know where to start? The East Bay Leadership Council has a Candidate Training Program that can help you answer your questions and prepare you for a successful campaign. In 10 weeks you learn how to identify the right office, how to set up a campaign, fundraise, develop messaging and so much more. The program is non-partisan (you’ll be taught by political consultants from multiple parties) but it is aimed at getting business-friendly candidates from Contra Costa & Alameda counties on the ballot. Assistance League's Play Day on the Plaza
Sunday, August 18, 12pm-4pm, Lafayette Plaza Park
An end of summer family day on Plaza Park! Assistance League will have tables featuring our nine philanthropic programs, gift baskets, give-away logo beach balls and face painting. On the plaza we will host an Open Mic opportunity for local music and literary talent. Games such as badminton, corn hole, croquet will be available. Other local businesses such as Sideboard, Lemon, Joe and The Juice, Orange Theory and K-9 Kitchen will be participating with their activities.
Lamorinda Idol Finals
Don’t miss the HIGHLIGHT of the Lamorinda Idol summer program - the Finals Performance that will take place August 18th at the Orinda Theatre from 11:00AM-7:30PM! Soloists compete in four categories by grade, while groups compete in three categories by grade. Each performer receives immediate feedback from a panel of judges, and audience members have a chance to vote for their favorites. The day culminates in an award ceremony where winners for all categories are announced! Entrance to each of the performances is FREE but donations are appreciated. Lamorinda ShortDocs
Tickets for the Fourth Annual Lamorinda ShortDocs Film Fest are now on sale! This year's screening is being hosted by the California Independent Film Festival (CAIFF) and takes place at the Orinda Theatre on Sunday August 25th at 11:00 am. Tickets are $10 in advance online; a limited number of $15 tickets will be available at the door.
This year, we present 17 short films created by talented local filmmakers ranging in age from elementary school children to adults. At the conclusion of screening, Judges will announce our Award Winners, and the Audience will have a chance to select a Favorite Student Film! A tented reception outside the theatre will follow.
Nominate Someone who Makes a Difference
The Contra Costa Arts and Culture Committee (AC5) are seeking nominations for the 2019 Arts Recognition Awards. AC5 will honor those who have made a significant artistic or philanthropic contribution to the communities in the County. The Commissioners ask that you nominate someone you feel is deserving of this award.
The nominees must be, or have been, an active supporter of arts and culture, with sustained contributions and work, that has had a far-reaching impact.
Consider those you feel have made a difference in visual arts, music, performing arts, dance digital arts or arts education for this award. Other worthy candidates might be those who have shown exceptional leadership, vision and commitment to the growth and support of arts and culture, or organizations what have kept the arts alive through continuous or significant financial support.

Summer Reading

This year’s Summer Reading program at the Contra Costa County Library will take you out of this world. The program runs from June 8 to August 8 and will include all kinds of activities and events related to Outer Space.
