Old Donation Episcopal Church

August 11, 2019
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

Weekly Chimes

Dear Old Donation friends and family,

The world is off-kilter. The regularity of hatred and rage erupting into mass violence, including our own city just two months ago, has made it seem like this is almost normal. Yet, it should not, and must not, be tolerated as something that is just part of our life. We can have good, healthy, disagreement and debate about WHAT to do, but DO SOMETHING needs to be our mantra. Communities can do more to come together. Politicians can unite and make this a safer place. We can all work harder to not start with our defensive guards up when someone else offers ideas.  Maybe together we can bring God's priorities into these debates and make progress. While we do that, I do offer my prayers for those communities and people who are being torn apart and terrorized, particularly the children in our nation who are now being taught how to use "bullet-proof" backpacks. uggh!

Sunday Ashley is back from vacation. She will be in the Church at 8 and 10:30. I'll have the Gathering and 5:00. Sundays@5 includes Paws, Prayers, and Praise! Tonight is vestry commissions. Outreach, Good News - Evangelism, and Parish Life are all meeting.

Monday night is our inaugural session for "THIRST" - a monthly 'pub-theology' discussion. We meet at New River Tap House upstairs. Ashley and I will buy pitchers of soft drinks and a first round of ale to get us started. This is a free-wheeling discussion where nothing is off-limits. We will start with a topic each time but be open to anywhere the Holy Spirit leads the group.

EYC is heading back to Water Country and Busch Gardens. Don't miss out!

Our August Wednesdays movie series starts next week with a FUN and FAITH-FULL showing of "Guardians of the Galaxy." This was the first of the series, released in 2014. We will begin showing the movie right at 6:00 so getting your plate full of food early will be helpful. Ashley and I will facilitate reflections on the spiritual points most of us miss. More details on the 2019 series coming.

See you Sunday, if not before.  Pax et bonum.

A new training class will begin in September. Contact Barbette Timperlake if you are interested.
