Getting Ready for Winter Break: Pack, Plan, Protect

  1. Review this message ahead of leaving campus for break.
  2. Utilize the Pack, Plan, and Protect checklists to prepare your space before leaving.
  3. Plan to depart campus by no later than 2 P.M. on Sunday, December 12.

Good Afternoon -

The end of the semester is fast approaching - we wanted to send out a note to congratulate you on completing this semester at Wake Forest and to share with you some important information about our communities closing for the semester break.

Please read this message closely and carefully.

  • 24-Hour quiet hours begin at 5 p.m. on December 3 and continue through the end of the day on December 11.
  • All students must depart for Winter Break by 2 p.m. on December 12. 
  • Those approved for Winter Break housing will need to transition accordingly by 2 p.m. on Dec. 12
  • Your Deacon OneCard access will end at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 12. Card access will begin again at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 8.
  • We cannot allow residents to occupy our communities when staff are not present, so there are no exceptions to these dates.
IF YOU ARE LEAVING THE UNIVERSITY, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU MUST BE COMPLETELY CHECKED OUT OF YOUR
FALL ROOM ASSIGNMENT BEFORE 2 P.M. ON DECEMBER 12.

Residential communities will close at
2 p.m. on Sunday, December 12.
Please make your travel arrangements accordingly.
PACKING, HEALTH & SAFETY

As you prepare to depart campus for the break, please be sure to give each of the 3 P’s (Pack, Plan, Protect) your attention. We ask that students:
Pack all belongings you'll need access to over the break, keeping in mind that University personnel will not be available to give you access to your room over the break.
  • JEWELRY
  • EXPENSIVE ITEMS
  • PASSPORT/ID
  • MEDICATIONS
  • TOILETRIES
  • ELECTRONICS (laptop, iPads, etc.)
  • GAME SYSTEMS
  • SPORTING EQUIPMENT
  • INSTRUMENTS
  • ANY NEEDED ACADEMIC MATERIALS
  • ROOM KEY
  • If you have lost your key this semester, please go ahead and submit your lock recore request.
Plan to leave things how you want to find them when you return.
ORGANIZE YOUR SPACE

  • Make sure your room is accessible/clean.
  • Remove personal items from common spaces.
  • Remove ALL items from bathroom and kitchen countertops for staff cleaning. (INCLUDING North Campus, Student, Polo and Deacon Place apartments)

PREP FOR INSPECTION

  • Ensure that all furniture that was in the room upon move-in is still in the space
CLEAN YOUR SPACE

  • Remove perishables and store all food in closed containers.
  • Remove trash and recyclables from your room and common areas.
  • Return To-Go containers for deposit, or empty of all food waste for storage.
  • Remove ALL items from common area refrigerators and freezers.
AND/OR
  • 72 hours prior to departure empty, defrost, unplug, and clean personal MicroFridges.

  • Submit any work orders needed for your space at workorders.wfu.edu, or by calling Customer Service at 336-758-4255
Protect your space and your belongings.
  • Unplug all items from wall outlets, including all string/strand lights.
  • Leave blinds down if your room is on a ground floor or faces a balcony.
OR
  • Pull blinds up if your room is on an upper floor and does not face a balcony.
  • Fan coils units should be set to 70° and low fan speed. 
  • Turn off your lights.
  • Close and lock all windows and room door(s).
  • Remove personal property from the floor (rugs, luggage, pillows, shoes, etc).
  • Ensure valuables that could be compromised are removed from the space.
  • Take bicycles home or store and lock them on designated bike racks.
  • Motorized bikes should be parked in designated moped spaces only.
  • Move all items in room at least 24” from fan coil units to allow service during the break.
  • Please make time to collect any items you have left in the laundry room(s).
Please be aware that
your room will be entered over the break.

Staff from the Office of Residence Life and Housing will inspect every room to ensure readiness for the break. Our inspection is generally confined to the main area of your room/apt./suite and any areas with windows.

Please be aware that any violations of policy that are observed will be documented and referred to the student conduct system.

Please refer to the Guide to Community Living for a list of all inspection policies as well as possible fines.

Your hall staff will send reminder emails with
community-specific information as closing approaches.
