The Liaison Response Team (LRT) is a unique program made up of firefighters (active and retired) whose mission is to provide assistance to firefighters, their families and their department in the aftermath of a burn injury.  LRT members are dedicated to the well-being and recovery of their fellow brother and sister firefighters and understand the importance of help and emotional support during critical times. LRT members also ensure the firefighter’s family is taken care of through meals, housing or by making other special arrangements. The Firefighters Burn Institute provides resources to also assist with post recovery including peer support groups and scholarships to send firefighters to burn survivor support conferences.

National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will provide live satellite broadcasts,
web streaming, and Facebook live of both the candlelight service
and the national memorial service.

The Candlelight service streaming is Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, 6:00 – 7:30 pm EDT.
The service begins at 6:30.

The Memorial service streaming is Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm EDT.
The service begins at 10:00.
Fire Prevention Week
October 7 - 13, 2018

This year’s “Look. Listen. Learn.” campaign highlights three steps you can take to help quickly and safely escape a fire:
 
  • Look for places fire could start.
  • Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm.
  • Learn 2 ways out of every room.

In a fire seconds can mean the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy. Fire safety education isn’t just for children, it is also for teenagers, adults, and the elderly. All age groups are at risk in fires and this fact makes it important for every member of the community to take some time every October during Fire Prevention Week to make sure they understand how to stay safe in case of a fire.

This year the Firefighters Burn Institute provided 19 scholarships to burn survivors and the medical professionals that care for them to attend the annual Phoenix Society’s “World Burn Congress” , which was held in Grand Rapids, MI September 12 th -15 th . 

World Burn Congress can be a life changing experience, not only for burn survivors, but for their families, friends and caregivers as well. WBC offers a supportive environment for transformational healing and gives those affected by burn injuries the tools to thrive again. Each year hundreds of burn survivors from all over the world come together to share their stories, find resources for their recovery and build a network for support. World Burn Congress is the world’s largest gathering of the burn community, connecting attendees with resources, support, and each other.

The Firefighters Burn Institute is honored to provide scholarships to those in need who would not otherwise be able to experience this life changing conference. The conference helps burn survivors and their families understand and cope with the physical and emotional challenges associated with burn recovery. World Burn Congress not only offers burn survivors the chance to meet others overcoming similar challenges, but also gives the hope and encouragement to go beyond merely surviving.

Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp
November 2 - 4, 2018
Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp is a FREE burn recovery program designed for preschool burn survivors, ages three to six years old and their families. This unique, three-day program helps families understand and cope with the physical and emotional challenges associated with burn recovery. In a supportive camp environment, families have the opportunity to meet other families who are overcoming similar challenges.
