Your Community Brief from Oak Ridge High School

Right away you should know that all of our hard work has paid off! Oak Ridge High School earned an 'B' letter grade from the Florida Department of Education for the 2018-2019 school year -
FLDOE report (school #0691).
We have set high academic expectations for all students, while providing supportive systems to ensure they are met. Our continuing mission is to lead our students to success with the support and involvement of families and the community. And now congratulations are in order to all of our students, teachers, families, volunteers, and partners in education that worked so hard in 2018-2019. To earn an 'B' grade is a major success story and one that the entire Oak Ridge community can be proud of.
This is our first
Pioneer Express issue for 2019-2020 and it contains helpful back-to-school information for our community. Please take care to note the schedule (see below) as we are holding several special back-to-school events over the next few days and we don't want any of our Pioneers to miss out.

Moving On Up!
As a school body, we managed to increase our total points earned in our school grade by 59 points earning a school grade of "B" from the Florida Department of Education. The faculty, staff and students have continued to work hard over the past couple of years to increase student achievement in all areas.

Here are instructions on how to get set up through
OCPS' LaunchPad access You will first need to register for a LaunchPad account in order to use the Skyward Student Information System (which has now replaced ProgressBook).
* Remember you will register your LaunchPad account with either with the email address or phone number we have on file at the school!

The Talk" with your kids, get ready to go back to school and more . . .
On August 20 the Orlando Public Library presents How to Have "The Talk" With Your Kids. Here you will have the chance to learn how to tackle those sensitive topics you need to address with your child.
Prepare your family this back-to-school season at the library. Several branches will host a Back to School Celebration where the whole family can enjoy stories, activities and more -

In Memory of Senor Jamie Colon
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that after a very brief and aggressive illness with cancer, Senor Colon passed away on July 23, 2019. Senor Colon was a Spanish teacher at Oak Ridge and was respected and loved by the faculty, staff and students. He was a genuine man, kind and always willing to go the extra mile for his colleagues and students. It was a pleasure to work with Senor Colon. He made us laugh and always had a smile. May the Lord give his family and friends comfort during this difficult time. The loss of a wonderful human being is one that leaves an emptiness in our hearts. Gone, but not forgotten.
