Greetings!
Question

What inspired you to learn more about horses and their communication system?

Answer

Seventy-two prepubescent fractures from a violent father set me on a course to break the chain of violence in my family. Watching my father kill and injure many horses deepened my resolve to make the change.

Sincerely,

MONTY'S CHALLENGE

Test yourself each week as I challenge you to answer the question below. I mean this. Sit down and write an answer. Don't wait for my answer next week. If you have been reading my Weekly Questions and Answers for the last six months, you should be in a position to do this. Send your answer to my team at:  askmonty@montyroberts.com

Why should you bother? Because it will help you focus. There is probably a comparable question in your life that needs answering... or will be. If you can gain insight into how to go about answering a practical question that is loosely related to your problem, this exercise will help you answer your nagging question. Then read my answer. I want all of my students to learn to be better trainers than me.That's good for you and good for horses!

NEXT WEEK'S QUESTION

What inspired you to dedicate your life to travel all over to educate and spread non-violent methods of working horses?

Ashley Mancuso is a horse trainer, dressage rider, film maker and yoga instructor who uses yoga to facilitate a better connection between horse and rider. Olivia Warner placed highly in the 2019 Kentucky Extreme Mustang Makeover with her filly, Gypsy, from Nevada. We applaud her goal to gentle and re-home as many mustangs as possible.

Temple Grandin Speaking at Monty Roberts’ The Movement June 2020

The fourth week in June 2020 is being held for the 3rd annual event that centers on the qualities of horses to teach us how to lower stress and build trust at Monty Roberts’ Flag Is Up Farms, in Solvang, California.
Dr. Temple Grandin , professor of animal science at Colorado State University, consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior, and autism spokesperson is one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience of autism and its relation to animals. Dr. Grandin will discuss autism, the flight animal and its advantage in working with horses. Whether you are a member of the autism community or horse community, you will find Temple’s presentation unforgettable.
“Autism helped me understand animals because I think in pictures. Since animals do not have language, their memories have to be sensory-based instead of word-based, ” said Dr. Temple Grandin.
