Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Begins 230 kV ACCC® Line Upgrade in Johor, Malaysia

With engineering and construction support from Zafas Sdn Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Berhad began their double circuit Senibong - Plentong uprating project using double-bundled Lisbon size ACCC® Conductor to replace double bundled ACSR Batang conductor.

The use of ACCC Conductor will allow TNB to increase the double circuit line capacity from 600 to 1,000 MVA without replacing or modifying any of the 35 existing steel lattice structures first installed over 25 years ago. The upgraded line operating at 230 kV is linked to a submarine cable at the Senibong substation where it ties into the Singapore electric power grid. The line is being upgraded to accommodate growing demand for electricity in Singapore.

ACCC Conductor for the project was supplied by  Tenaga Cable Industries Sdn Bhd (TCI) and hardware was provided by Dervaux.  The 9.2 km double circuit project includes two major highway crossings. Tesmec pullers and tensioners are being utilized along with NingBo sheeve wheels. Duratrans' ACCC Master Installers Mr. Shariff and Mr. Zul are supervising the project, with additional support from CTC Global's Engineering and Field Service Departments.

Iberdrola Completes ACCC®  Conductor Installations for CFE in Sinaola Mexico

To support Iberdrola's new combined cycle natural gas electric power plant and adjacent 230 kV substation, Iberdrola, with the help of Grupo Grytsa and El Roble Construction, completed the installation of 47 kilometers of Drake size ACCC Conductor on the new double-circuit, double-bundled 230 kV Topolobampo transmission line and 230 kV substation at Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

ACCC Conductor for the project was provided by Conductores Monterrey (Viakon) and hardware was supplied by PLP Mexico. CTC Global's Master Installers Sergio Rojas and Ismael Dones provided installation support along with Eduardo Reyna from Viakon.

Iberdrola's new power plant will produce roughly 665 MW, which will help CFE accommodate growing demand for electric energy in the region. The use of ACCC Conductor will help ensure reliability and efficiency in the coming years.

ACCC® Conductor to be Leveraged in Climate Change Initiative

For many years, CTC Global has touted the positive impact the ACCC Conductor can have towards reducing GHG emissions via reduced line losses. For the first time, the use of a high performance conductor in a transmission project was recognized as directly contributing to lowering Green House Gas emissions.

As a result of this conductor performance, an upcoming project was categorized as a "Climate Change" project by the funding bank. CTC Global is pleased to see this recognition and proud to support these initiatives. CTC Global will release more information about this and other similar projects in the coming weeks.
ACCC ® Conductor Technology Combats Corrosion

For most of us involved in transmission line design and engineering, few of us consider corrosion as a tier one issue. However, in many parts of the world corrosion negatively impacts transmission line conductors which can lead to very high maintenance costs, poor reliability, costly outages and frequent conductor replacement.

With the advent of CTC Global's high-capacity, low-sag ACCC Conductor, corrosion issues have been widely addressed and mitigated in many parts of the world. A few extreme examples include ocean crossings in Indonesia, Malaysia and Mexico. Similar installations in the South Eastern United States adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico where corrosion is a huge problem are also good examples.

In any case, the ACCC Conductor's composite core is impervious to corrosion that often takes a toll on conventional steel-reinforced ACSR and ACSS conductors. In fact, in some areas, "ACSR" is also (lightheartedly) pronounced "A-C-no-R" because of its poor resistance to corrosion in harsh environments.

While many utility experts have plenty of field stories to share, academics, such as the members of the National Science Foundation's Center for Novel High Voltage / High Temperature Materials & Structures, based at Denver University have also done accelerated aging tests of various conventional and composite core conductors to assess the impact of corrosion.

In these tests, it became very clear that the ACCC Conductor's composite core was the clear winner in the conductor war against corrosion. For more information, please visit www.ctcglobal.com or contact [email protected]

CTC Global's Conductor Comparison Program CCP Software is Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP) software is now available online, and is accessible at:
LINK  The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

All data required for calculations is entered on one page. Representative ACCC® Conductors are automatically selected based on the "base" conductor selected. Some fields are automatically entered based on earlier entries or saved user preferences. For example, latitude is entered from a web app based on the project location, and currency conversion is provided using real-time web app information. The user can edit most input data, including default and automatically selected data. Registered users can save multiple projects, recall them, modify them and save them as new projects or overwrite the existing projects.

CCP comparison output is displayed on a separate page. Frequently changed input used for sensitivity analysis is conveniently provided on that same page to minimize toggling between pages. Registered users can export reports that break out sections of the output to PDF and Excel files.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.

Thank you for using our CCP. We welcome your feedback. For technical support, please contact [email protected]
