The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is now accepting applications for their 14th annual NCTE Media Literacy Award, which will be presented to an individual, team, or department that has implemented and refined exemplary media literacy practices in their school environment. Ithaca College Offering Media Literacy Minor
The School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College will be offering a new interdisciplinary minor in media literacy this fall. The minor is an interdisciplinary program that provides a grounding in the theories, principles and practices in the rapidly growing field of media literacy. Students in the minor will approach the analysis and evaluation of media messages from several different academic perspectives, applying key questions regarding the source, purpose, content, techniques, credibility and impact of those messages on individuals and societies. The Creativity of Imitation in Remake Videos
In this new research report, authors Renee Hobbs and Yonty Friesem explore the potential educational value of the remake video phenomenon (the creation of videos that explicitly imitate or copy an original work) by conducting a content analysis of 93 videos that were inspired by “Love Language,” a sentimental narrative video that features the themes of budding romance and disability awareness.
