Grant, O merciful God, that your Church, being gathered together in unity by your Holy Spirit, may show forth your power among all peoples, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one...Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is hell.

At the August Vestry meeting, the Vestry:
-
Discussed how the Coronavirus has been impacting businesses and churches. The Vestry was encouraged to step out in leadership to engage building for the Kingdom of God, rather than the easier move of ‘waiting until things get back to normal.’
- Was informed that Angela has returned from maternity leave; however, the office remains closed and we’re working remotely.
-
Was reminded that St. Paul’s reopening (or closing) for services is tied to GISD actions. When GISD is open, so are we. If GISD closes, so will we. Currently St. Paul’s is scheduled to reopen for an in-person service on Sunday September 13th. The procedures will be the same as June.
- On Sunday’s, we’ll have a 10:30 service only until we have at least 10 people commit to attend an 8:00 service.
- Was informed that the Wednesday service will change in September. There will be no mid-week service on September 2, 9, or 16. On the 23nd, the Wednesday service time will be 10:30 (immediately following Children’s Chapel), and it will be Morning Prayer. It will likely remain on Zoom until we have in-person Children’s Chapel. When we have regular attendance of 10 persons, we’ll change it to Holy Eucharist.
- Was informed that the Friday morning Bible Study will change to another day/time in September.
- Was reminded that all Vestry members need to complete the required modules for Safe Church training.
- Heard that the Jr. Warden continues to ensure the that grounds are properly maintained, and that the church is sanitized for worship.
- Heard that we have $2K now in the fund for roof repair.
- Heard that the Finance Committee will form and begin work on the budget in the next month.
- Heard that Diocesan Alpha Course starting up on September 10th via Zoom.
- Approved a plan for a community garden called ‘Fruitful Ministry.’ Six parishioners were named as participating in the plan, and they will begin work in the fenced in area next to Clardy Hall in the near future.
August Treasurer’s Report indicated:
Monthly income: $16,600; Monthly expense: 15,667; Variance: $932
YTD income: $122,475; YTD expense: $111,763; Variance: $10,712

Around the Parish
AUGUST 30 – Fr. Nick encourages all students and teachers to be virtually present at the 10:30 a.m. service on You Tube or Facebook for a special blessing to cover them in prayer as they go about their daily school work.
SEPTEMBER 10 - Episcopal Diocese of Dallas launches an online Alpha course. It teaches the basics of Christianity in an environment that fosters conversations and relationships. If you’d like to research Alpha more – https://wwwalpha.org. (I recommend this excellent study; it was done at St. Paul’s in the early 2000’s.)

The Rt. Rev. George Sumner
Some have refused the wearing of masks with Patrick Henry-like cries, ‘give me liberty.’ This certainly has an American ring! But a classic limit situation for the prior claim to individual liberty is…a pandemic. The reason is simple: the virus is not interested in individuality. The virus knows no political party, and it is the virus that is our opponent, politicians notwithstanding. It is in this sense that mask and distance have been, from the beginning of this crisis, acts of charity toward our neighbor. (continue reading)

DOK PRAYER REQUESTS & BOX
The Daughters of the King support your prayer needs and wishes. Each Sunday a prayer team will be available to pray with you after the Worship Service in the choir area after the 10:30 service. If you would like additional information, please see a DOK member.
They also have a intercessory prayer box on the table in the Narthex to deposit prayer requests. Prayer request cards may be found in the pews and beside the box in the Narthex. Daughters pray daily. All prayers are confidential. Each person is prayed for one month. If you wish for continued prayers, please complete another request card or contact a Daughter.
You may call the church office (903-455-5030) and specify it is for the DOK intercessory prayer list. You can hand the card to a Daughter (she is always wearing her cross).
