October 16, 2019 - Anchored in His Love
Peace - St. Francis & St. Clare
Dear St. Isidore Families,

Let Go and Let God
October is moving right along! Believe it or not, we are already halfway through the month. The life of a parent is definitely busy, and at times it can seem as if life is moving at light speed. During hectic moments, I encourage you to reflect on October’s Gospel Value: Peace, or more specifically, peace of mind. As parents, we are faced with many challenges and pressures; we make critical decisions and important changes when need be. We do our best in every situation, and sometimes things work out great. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always cooperate, and there are moments of failure and disappointment. During challenging moments, remember that God has a plan for each of us, and it’s okay to let go and let God.

Halloween Kids Konnection Correction
Please note that last week’s newsletter incorrectly stated that KK would be open in the afternoon on Halloween. I apologize for the confusion, but KK will be closed on Halloween after 12pm dismissal. Thank you for your flexibility. Friday, November 1, will be a late start, 8:50am, due to All Saints Day Mass. KK will be open as normal, starting at 7am.

Mind the Gap
October is Mind the Gap Push Month! I want to thank the many families that have already donated to our school-wide campaign, Mind the Gap. The campaign was created seven years ago to help fill the gap between what tuition dollars cover and what it actually costs to educate a child. We ask that each family donate the recommended $500 per student. See the Mind the Gap push month information in today’s family envelope, and please know that your generosity and support make a difference and benefit the students and staff directly.

Emergency Drill Tomorrow
Tomorrow we will run our biannual emergency evacuation drill. The drill will start promptly at 12:45pm; see student dismissal schedule below. As mentioned previously, students will be released only to those listed on their emergency forms, and photo identification is required. Students should wear their uniforms or uniform tops with jeans, bring a bottle of water and an SSR book, and wear sunscreen and a hat or sunglasses. They are also allowed to bring in a deck of cards. This drill serves as a great opportunity for us to prepare and better acquaint ourselves with school emergency procedures.

The festival will be fun for the whole family and will feature food, drink, an assortment of carnival games, music, face painting, and a pumpkin patch. Gather your friends and family and head on down for some fun.

Thanks to everyone that attended the Foundation Oktoberfest last Saturday night! It was great to see so many dressed in costumes enjoying themselves. Thank you to the awesome Foundation Board Members for making this night happen. Have a great rest of the week!

Student Leadership
Written by: Gabrielle Navarro - Two weeks ago, I attended the Challenge Success conference at Stanford University. There, I learned about various school- and health-related topics. One of the reiterated ones was sleep. We learned about why it’s necessary to receive enough sleep and how lack of it can lead to severe consequences. Stress and anxiety were also addressed. Although the world views these as horrible and uncommon, psychologists see them as natural. They focused on ways to handle them instead of avoiding them. Additionally, the speakers discussed the importance of a well-balanced student and how to balance school, extracurricular, and other responsibilities. Another session I attended was about youth advocates, in which students from other schools and myself brainstormed leadership strategies and ideas. Finally, we redefined what success truly means and how motivation and engagement are essential to it. Overall, I enjoyed learning about them and listening to the fascinating speakers.
