Welcome to summer everyone!

Happy Summer Everyone!

We hope that you are following us on social media so that you can keep up with the volunteer opportunities that are available at Chapelwood. Don't forget that this Sunday, August 11 is Local Serving Commissioning at the 9:45 Sanctuary service.

Our communion offering for August will go to Family Point Resources. FPR supports after school programs for children at risk as well as summer programs within SBISD schools. Some of the programs are volunteer led clubs, such as cooking for boys and a gardening club. FPR also hosted monthly family potluck dinners and offers group counseling sessions.

We hope that you have time to read through the newsletter below and find ways to connect with God, other church members, and the community in meaningful ways over the next few months.

Blessings,

Suzanne and Evan

Make a Difference One Person at a Time

I know.  It's the middle of summer. It's hot outside. But the new school year is right around the corner.  We need mentors and tutors to support students from Pre-K through high school by reading to the little ones to guiding the college application process.

We are starting a new volunteer reading tutor program at Spring Branch Elementary where we will tutor 50 2nd grade students that are reading below grade level. The school district will train the volunteers. The commitment is one hour per week. Help us transform SBE from an unacceptable rated school to an exceptional school!

Houston Welcomes Refugees Drive and Orientation

Save the Date to attend a Houston Welcomes Refugees orientation at Chapelwood on Sunday, September 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room. If you are interested in spending time with a new family this fall in a variety of meaningful ways, plan to attend the Chapelwood orientation. We will also be hosting a drive for Houston Welcomes Refugees on the 15th and 22nd of September.

Let's give a big cheer for a new school year!

Interested in volunteering with SBISD students? We have opportunities to help from Pre-Kers all the way through high school seniors. We especially need mentors to encourage the middle school students that are involved with our monthly Saturday program (SWAP). Already volunteering? Invite a friend to join you in this mission. For more information click here

Sponsor a Child through  MAM's Back To School Drive

Please help neighborhood school children purchase school uniforms. Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) and Chapelwood are helping children in low-income families buy uniforms. Please help ease the burden of struggling families; $50 provides school clothing and shoes for one child. 100% of all donations will be used to purchase shirts, shorts, socks, and shoes.

We are accepting donations on Sunday mornings, August 4,11, and 18 at the information center in the Fountain Hallway or online donations can be made at  chapelwood.org/uniformdrive We hope you will take this opportunity to help a child start the school year right!

From NewSpring Art Studio:

Students in Spring Branch are "traveling" around the world exploring a different country every week this summer at the Newspring Art Studio. Our goal is to open our student's eyes to the many diverse cultures our world has to offer. Students learn about various traditional and modern works of art and create something inspired by combining a variety of art techniques. Toucan posters and henna tattoos are just the beginning! In addition, we invite special guests with a connection to each country to visit our studio and share their stories and talents with the students. At the end of the week, students sample a dish native to the country we are studying.  Newspring is on course to serve 250 students on our travels around the world through art this summer.
