Rabbi's Message

On an El Al flight to Israel, a stewardess asked a passenger, “Would you like your dinner served sir?”
The passenger replied, “What’s my choice?”
She answered, “Yes or No.”

In today’s movies I find the X-Rated scenes to be exactly that…X-Rated!

Our blessed women who have made incredible strides with their demands to be placed on the same pedestal as their male counterparts, still have a long path to go. I have been decrying the exhibition of vivid sexual innuendos between men and women, men and men, women and women. Years ago, Directors were more discreet with their filming of scenes depicting sexual alliances. Of course, in those years the Hays Code of Moral Conduct, was very strict as the purveyor of Decency within the movie ‘business'. However, as it was a ‘business,' over the years poor Mr. Hays, whose code lasted until 1968, was overruled by movie-makers who decided that nudity, suggested sexual encounters between adults would bring in more money to the box-office. And, they were right!

Since then, we have graduated to home movies presented by Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO and others that satisfy the nation's thirst for obscenity. If that weren’t enough of an issue for people’s indignation, there are the heinous depictions of women being maimed and tortured.

Progress? If that can be equated with ‘money’ it would be right on.
What has happened to “ Singing In the Rain ” happy musicals and good old wartime propaganda reality films like “ The Best Years of Our Lives ?” The new generation of film goers demanded more skin and less story line, more lascivious conduct and less morality.

I could go on for hundreds pages. I won’t. But, I will contact clergy, NOW and social organizations who fight for decency, justice and equality.

Women should not be served up to deranged movie-goers who think that beating up and disfiguring women is okay since they saw it on the screen. And, there are many. How about using women as vessels to satisfy certain urges of men who think nothing of debasing a woman to satisfy sexual fantasies. And, there are many.

If this article, and it’s only the tip of an iceberg, moves you in any way let me know. There is much to be done, people to see and positive issues to address.

And, remember, we have the choice to say, “Yes or No.” “Yes” for action, “No” for “Status Quo.” I’m a “Yes” man.

Shabbat Shalom everyone. Please be well and stay healthy and strong.

We are CREATIVE ARTS STRONG!

Most Sincerely,

Rabbi Jerry Ram Cutler

Dear congregants and friends.

High Holidays are approaching as well as membership renewals. Because of the pandemic, we’re not sure what September is going to look like and we’re concerned about your safety and comfort, so we’re gearing up for virtual services just in case we won’t be able to gather together.

Our services will once again include our outstanding choir, wonderful musical director, readers, joy, spirituality and love that we are used to for our most holy of days. We are working everything out and will keep you updated. We’re excited. We plan on doing some very special things that we think you’re going to love and resonate with.

Please stay safe and healthy and hope to see you this Friday night at 6pm.

Coronavirus Information Reminder

Since the coronavirus is on everyone's mind these days, this article will hopefully alleviate some of your fears. It is copied as it was received.

If you have a runny nose and sputum when you have a cold, you cannot be a new type of coronavirus pneumonia, because coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough without runny nose. This is the simplest way to identify. Please tell your friends that if you know more about medical knowledge, you will have more awareness of identification and prevention.

The Wuhan virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed at a temperature of 26-27 degrees (centigrade) . Therefore, drink more hot water. You can tell your friends and relatives to drink more hot water to prevent it. Go under the Sun. It has been cold recently, and drinking hot water is also very comfortable. It is not a cure and is good for the body. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink ice, remember!
Doctor's advice about coronavirus:
1. It is pretty large in size (cell is about 400-500nm diameter), so any normal mask (not just the N95 feature) should be able to filter it out. However, when someone who's infected sneezes in front of you, it will take a great 3 meters (about 10 feet) before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
2. When the virus drops on metal surface, it will live for at least 12 hours. So remember if you come in contact with any metal surface, wash your hands with soap thoroughly.
3. The virus can remain active on fabric for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent should kill the virus. For winter clothing that does not require daily washing, you can put it out under the sun to kill the virus.
About the symptoms of the pneumonia caused by Coronavirus:
1. It will first infect the throat, so the throat will have the dry sore throat feeling which will last for 3 to 4 days
2. Then the virus will blend into the nasal fluid and drips into the trachea and enter the lungs, causing pneumonia. This process will take 5 to 6 days.
3. With pneumonia, comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You will feel like you are drowning in water. It's important to go seek immediate medical attention if you feel like this.
About prevention:
1. The most common way of getting infected is by touching things in public, so you must wash your hands frequently. The virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 mins, but a lot can happen in those 5-10 mins (you can rub your eyes or pick your nose unwittingly).
2. Aside from washing your hands frequently, you can gargle with Betadine Sore Throat Gargle to eliminate or minimize the germs while they are still in your throat (before dripping down to your lungs).
Please take extra care and drink plenty of water as each of you is very important to us.
