CEO MESSAGE
Fall is living up to its name here on the south coast of BC; not one, but two powerful ‘bomb’ cyclones swooped in and then stalled off the coast. Winds were still strong enough to rattle the leaves off the trees in the past week. Also moving in, the province’s latest pandemic plans. The BC government has unveiled a new booster strategy as we move forward. Vaccinations for children under 12y old are coming and soon, and Life Sciences BC platinum sponsor, Pfizer received FDA approval in this age group for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine based around homegrown Acuitas delivery technology.
This week, Canada has a new federal cabinet. Here at Life Sciences BC, we’re looking forward to continuing discussion with the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, who is re-appointed as Minister for Innovation, Science and Industry. We’re also keen to continue building life sciences excellence into healthcare and provincial planning, with new appointments, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, and the Honourable Harjit Sajjan, who takes on responsibility for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada.

Congratulations also to Provincial Health Services Authority clinician, Dr. John Webb who received a prestigious Canadian Cardiovascular Society Achievement Award. The award recognizes many decades or contributions to the field of cardiology. Dr. Webb is on faculty as the McLeod Professor of Heart Valve Innovation with LSBC member, UBC Faculty of Medicine. He’s also the medical chair of the Transcatheter Heart Valve Program with Cardiac Services BC, and medical director of the Catheterization Lab at St. Paul's Hospital.
